Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, English Language and Literature at American University of Nigeria (AUN)

The post-holder will be required to instruct courses, both introductory and advanced levels, in line with his or her area of expertise. The successful candidate must have a PhD in English Language and Literature at the time of applying. The area of specialisation should be Language or Linguistics, with at least five (5) years of university-level teaching experience.  The candidate should be able to teach courses such as Semantics, Pragmatics, Syntax, phonology, English Language in Nigeria, writing among other courses. The candidate should also be able to do other departmental and university-wide duties as assigned to them. S/he will possess an established, or potential to establish, record of excellence in teaching, research and service.

Job Purpose

• The successful candidates will teach courses in English Language and Literature.
• Conduct research and publish papers in rigorous peer-reviewed journals.
• Promote the department’s research and scholarly activities by presenting research findings in seminars and conferences.
• Supervise research projects, tutor and mentor students.
• Lead or be part of other committees aimed at promoting research, curriculum development, staff welfare etc.
• Contribute to AUN’s community service and development.
• Other duties as assigned by the Chair or the Dean.

Person Specification

• PhD in English Language and Literature
• An outstanding teaching and research record commensurate with career stage.
• Experience in problem centered approach to teaching and learning.
• Record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
• Experience of developing research proposals for externally funded projects.
• Proven ability to lead and manage the department or other committee in the university.
