When CHAI was founded, many viewed this goal as unreasonable because health systems in poor countries were too weak and prices of relevant drugs and diagnostic tests were too high.CHAI played a leadership role, working alongside governments and other partners, to lower the costs of treatment and help build the in-country systems necessary to provide lifesavi...
Overview:
The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) works in partnership with country governments, partners, and other major stakeholders to identify key obstacles to scaling-up and increasing access to essential health services, and to develop sustainable strategies to overcome them. CHAI’s solution-oriented approach focuses on improving market dynamics for medicines and diagnostics; lowering prices for treatment; accelerating access to life-saving vaccines and technologies; and helping governments build the capacity required to design and implement high-quality care and treatment programs.
CHAI’s Applied Analytics Team (AAT) works closely with CHAI’s country teams and partner governments to improve health care delivery by using applied analytics to drive policy and programmatic decisions. AAT provides credible designs, strategies and advice, through fit-for-purpose analytical approaches including operations research, mathematical modeling, monitoring, program evaluation and impact evaluation.
Expanding access to long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC) provides women the choice of more effective methods to reduce unintended pregnancies and associated negative health outcomes. Providing LARC to women during the postpartum period is a particularly effective intervention in that it targets women with family planning when they need it most and when the health benefits can be the greatest. Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are a particularly cost-effective method and are the longest acting reversible contraceptive available, protecting against pregnancy for up to 12 years.
CHAI will support the governments of Nigeria and Ethiopia, countries with low LARC use, to expand services by integrating family planning services, and particularly postpartum IUDs (PPIUDs), with CHAI’s comprehensive maternal and newborn health (MNH) programs. The approach will ensure provision of complete counseling and delivery of the range of appropriate family planning methods, focused on IUDs, to postpartum women by integrating these services into the MNH cascade to reach women during their pregnancy-related interactions with the health system.
CHAI is seeking a highly motivated individual with superior problem-solving skills who is resourceful, collaborative, and proficient in quantitative analysis to support the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) efforts of the PPIUD programs in Nigeria and Ethiopia. The candidate must have a passion for results and a commitment to excellence, and experience with M&E and/or data collection and management. The Technical Advisor will be a member of the Applied Analytics Team, and will collaborate daily with CHAI’s global Family Planning and MNH Teams, as well as the Nigerian and Ethiopian country teams. The position will be based in Abuja, with anticipated travel to Ethiopia and within Nigeria.
