    Media Relations Executive

    Overall Purpose of the Job:

    To develop, maintain and sustain good media relations that support Seplat business objectives, implement communications strategies and messaging that resonate with SEPAT publics and the media to promote the company’s business and activities and ensuring practices are in place to proactively engage the media and respond to inquiries and unexpected crises when they occur. 

    Principal Accountabilities:

    • Develop and steward media relations
    • Develop the appropriate media communication materials for the media
    • Provide advisory functions on media intelligence
    • Coordinate media relations to support business strategic perspective
    • Manage community relations from a media perspective
    • Prepare monthly/periodic media update
    • Assist with production of company publications and website
    • Manage publicity of company activities
    • Assist with internal communications to engage, inform and motivate employees
    • Ensure compliance with company brand guidelines in all corporate identity matters and publications, etc
    • Planning and management of communication projects, concept development, research, writing, editing, proofreading and printing.

    Job Knowledge and Qualifications: 

     

    • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism or a related field.
    • Minimum of 7 years corporate communications experience, including direct responsibility for media relations and communications.
    • Excellent writing, editing, communication and presentation skills. Ability to produce clear, compelling, motivating communications.
    • Strong understanding of business and the ability learn new audiences quickly.
    • Experience in Marketing Communications and brand implementation
    • Ability to develop effective working relationships with key internal and external contacts, including senior management and the media.

     

    Competencies

    • Core communications skills: Channel management, writing, engaging content creation, speaking and presentation
    • Stellar written and verbal communications skills; excellent AP-style journalistic writing and editing practices and strong presentation/public speaking skills
    • Solid understanding of best modern media relations practices; current and verifiable media contacts at national outlets
    • Ability and willingness to follow established processes and procedures, and also work fluidly in situations where standard operating procedures do not exist
    • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to diplomatically prioritize requests
    • Detail and deadline oriented
