    NPO Surveillance (Zonal Coordinator)

    Objectives of the Programme

    • The objective of the EPI programme is to support national authorities reduce morbidity, disability and mortality due to vaccine preventable diseases through improving access and utilization of immunization services through strengthened LGA EPI programmes; accelerating efforts to achieve polio eradication, measles control, maternal and neonatal tetanus elimination, yellow fever control; promote innovations including introduction of new and under-utilized vaccines; improve vaccine safety and security and systematize access to immunization services integrated with other child survival interventions
    • The purpose of this post is to provide technical support with regards to immunization activities, both routine and supplemental, within the WHO-Nigeria EPI Team. The post holder will support the Nigeria national authorities in the North West Geo-political zone to strengthen immunization activities in order to achieve global and regional routine immunization targets and achieve regional targets for accelerated control vaccine preventable diseases.

    Description of Duties
    The Zonal Coordinator will manage the activities of the WHO EPI Zonal office including providing technical, administrative and managerial oversight of all activities of the Zonal Team. He/she will provide technical and managerial support to the staff based in the states within the zone through the respective State Coordinators. This position reports directly to the Team Leader, EPI, and liaises with other EPI units and other Clusters as appropriate. The Zonal Coordinator will be responsible for the following:

    • To provide technical assistance to national authorities in the states of the assigned geo-political zone to adopt National EPI Strategies and programme best practices to state specific situations.
    • To support national authorities in the states in specific Geo-political zones in preparing, reviewing and/or updating annual State immunization plans.
    • To support capacity building activities in support of immunization operations (service delivery, vaccine supply and quality, logistics, surveillance, advocacy and communication), immunization safety and strengthening human and institutional resources
    • To support capacity building activities aimed at the introduction of new and under-utilized vaccines as well as the delivery of immunization activities together with other priority disease control/child survival interventions.
    • To support immunization and surveillance monitoring and evaluation activities
    • To support activities aimed at strengthening partnership and advocacy in support of improving performance of immunization and surveillance activities.
    • Perform other activities as required by the EPI Team Leader and WHO Representative

    Required Qualifications
    Education:

    • Essential: Degree in Medicine (MBBS, MBChB, MD)
    • Desirable: Post graduate degree in Public Health preferably in epidemiology or other related public health fields

    Experience:

    • Essential: At least Five years of experience in EPI activities after post graduate qualification in government or non-governmental organizations.
    • Desirable: Experience in an international organization

    Skills:

    • Computer literate in Microsoft windows applications, analytical soft-wares such as EPIINFO

    • Promoting WHO’s position in health leadership

    Use of Language Skills:

    • Essential: Excellent command of English
