    Education Officer

    Job Summary

    Education Officer is responsible for organising and encouraging participation in educational programmes and also focuses on areas with high levels of social deprivation.

    Under the authority of the Project Director and the Education Supervisor, the Education Officer will provide programmatic support and specific expertise for professional development.

    The Education Officer assist in providing support in trainings, supervision of trainers, material development, and program monitoring.

    Job Description

    • With support from the Education Supervisor, develop, implement and monitor quarterly, monthly and weekly activity plans to achieve expected results. This includes planning of activities, budgets and procurement.
    • Ensure that all planned activities are implemented on time, to quality measures and within budget as per the monthly plan. Where challenges arise, ensure that these are flagged early, communicated to the Education Supervisor and addressed in a timely manner way.
    • Representing JRS to enhance and maintain strong relationship with other NGOs to have mutual understanding and coordination about education activities in the camps or host community.
    • Lead the preparation of all procurement and administrative documents required for program implementation.
    • Work with teachers and community to increase education service provision e.g. additional teaching spaces Awareness sessions, Parents and Teachers’ Association (PTA), and catch up classes.
    • Lead on planning and capacity building training workshops for teachers and other education actors.
    • Work with communities (leaders, parents, etc.) and disseminate information about education issues and available services.
    • Create additional learning spaces – design and location based on assessment data.
    • Hold meetings with stakeholders including schools, local councils and other organizations serving children and community to understand their education priorities, familiarize them with the projects and its objectives and engage them in the process.
    • Keep proper records of field expenditures when appropriate and report on these to the Head of Programmes.
    • Ensure that the Education program is implemented in ways that are responsive to communities and children, in line with JRS principles, values and strategic plan and compliant with JRS procedures.

    Job Requirements

    • Have a University Degree in Education.
    • Have a proven work experience of at least three (3) years in the education sector preferably in a humanitarian organization.
    • Experience working with refugees or forcibly displaced persons.

    Job Qualities

    • Adhere to JRS values and abide by the code of conduct and other policies.
    •  Knowledge of the reality of life in refugee and IDP camps.
    • Knowledge of Nigerian education systems.
    • Knowledge of the functioning of educational centers and training of teachers.
    • Knowledge of international standards on emerging education.
    • Perfect command of English (oral and written) and a Nigerian Language.
    • Knowledge of French would be an asset.
    • Ability to coordinate and work in a team and autonomy in the exercise of one's duties, show of leadership, honesty and sense of organization.
    • Proven work experience in multicultural and stressful environments.
