      Purpose of the Consultancy Assignment:

    Many years of conflict in the Northeast of Nigeria has led to break down in the social norms and social protection. Schools have been attacked by armed forces, Schools have been occupied by either IDPs and armed forces, girls have been abducted while scores have been recruited and yet many children remain at risk of being either recruited in to armed ranks or dropping out of school for the following reasons including among others early marriage, teenage pregnancies and forced marriage.

    With Support from the European Union, Plan International in partnership with Save the Children International and GEPADC is implementing a 3-year project to increase resilience of the education system and services in conflict affected Borno State, Nigeria.

    The focus of the project is on increasing access, to safe, quality and inclusive education opportunities (formal and non-formal) for conflict affected children, adolescent and youth through addressing the specific barriers of girls and boys in the view of improving retention and completion, achieving better learning outcomes, and, improving access to livelihood and employment opportunities for youth.

    The Action will train 39,200 older children in the 73 target schools, 20 AEPs and 25 Sangayya schools, through a peer to peer approach, on life skills including relationship building, communication, non-violent behaviour, and sexual and reproductive health for girls and boys of different ages. Volunteer peer educators will be provided 4 days training using existing peer educator training modules, and additional resources from agencies such as UNICEF and The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Particular attention will be paid to vulnerable adolescents, including former CAAFAG, children headed households, adolescent mothers and young girls who are at an increased risk of abuse and violence and transitioning to adulthood. Life skills support aim to empower young girls and boys with positive reinforcement so that they are able to have a better understanding of their socio-cultural environment, raise awareness on violence against women and girls and enhance social and personal competences.
