    Biostatistician

    Duration: January to September 2019
    Report to: The NAIIS Senior Biostatistician

    Position Overview

    • The Biostatistician will support the Nigeria AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey (NAIIS). This is a population-based survey with over 90,000 randomly selected households and over 200,000 individuals in all the states of Nigeria.
    • The survey estimates HIV incidence, prevalence, viral load suppression among adults and children and to determine hepatitis B and C prevalence.
    • The Biostatistician will apply his/her expertise in large scale survey statistics, methodology, including survey sampling and weighting methodology to generate valid national and sub-national estimates.
    • The primary statistical software package for NAIIS data analysis is SAS.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Analyze complex survey data
    • Implement sampling and weighting strategies for data analysis
    • Produce estimates for national and sub-national levels
    • Through survey methodology and demography techniques yield estimates of national and subnational HIV prevalence, and people living with HIV.
    • Provide survey statistics support, consultation, and analysis
    • Estimate the key population sizes
    • Support data management processes including data cleaning
    • Prepare derived datasets for the analyses
    • Program and validate statistical analyses
    • Develop and use macros or other procedures for automating statistical analysis
    • Communicate findings in written documentation and presentations
    • Assist in country report writing and writing peer-reviewed papers
    • Support in the development of materials for public release of the NAIIS datasets

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of Master's degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology or Quantitative Methods with statistical modeling experience.
    • Minimum of two years’ experience in health survey data analysis

    Skills:

    • Mandatory working knowledge of SAS and Stata
    • Complex survey analysis skill
    • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
    • Written and oral communication skill
    • Strong teamwork.
