Job Search Research Methodology:

To construct this year’s report, we analyzed a comprehensive set of job listings from MyJobMag published between January 2023 and December 2024.

The job search market in Nigeria witnessed an 18% YoY increase in 2024, with 90,049 openings published across various industries, including paid and free listings.  These jobs were classified according to educational qualifications with 75% of the jobs requiring a Bachelor’s degree.

Top 10 Job Roles in Nigeria (2024): 

Accountant remains the most in-demand job role in 2024. There is, however, a significant increase in demand for this role with a 35% YoY increase. While the top roles in 2024 remain consistent with 2023, the entry of "Procurement Officer" into the top 10 highlights a rising demand for strategic sourcing and expertise in supply chain management.

Top Hiring Industries (2024):

The ICT/Telecommunication industry had the most hiring activity in 2024, accounting for 15% of hires with 9,643 placements. NGOs followed closely, reflecting strong activity in this industry. Interestingly, Education and Teaching surpassed the Banking industry in 2024, contributing 11% of job hires.

Top Job Fields in Nigeria (2024):

Sales, Marketing, Retail, and Business Development continue to lead job search trends in 2024, representing 22% of all job openings. Engineering roles also recorded a remarkable 13% YoY growth, underscoring the ongoing demand for innovation. The data below highlight opportunities for professionals to align their skills with fields that are highly sought after.

States Leading in Employment Opportunities:

The job market across Nigeria varies by state with certain regions offering a significantly higher number of job opportunities than others. Lagos leads in the ranking of states with employment opportunities, accounting for 60% of all jobs in 2024. Abuja takes up 12%, while Rivers follow with 4.7%. In contrast, states such as Taraba, Kebbi, and Bauchi have fewer opportunities:

A total of 8,336 NGO jobs were published in 2024. Abuja leads with the highest number of NGO jobs reflecting its status as a hub for international organizations and policymaking. Top Remote Jobs (2024):

In 2024 there was a significant increase in remote jobs compared to 2023. The number of remote roles grew from 1,317 in 2023 to 2,476 in 2024, reflecting an 88% YoY growth. More companies are offering remote roles as part of the broader move toward flexible and hybrid work arrangements. 

To secure remote opportunities, job seekers are encouraged to upskill in fields driving innovation, storytelling, and business growth. Some of the top remote roles in 2024 are social media manager, product manager, and content creator.

Industries with the Least Hiring (2024):

Industries with the least hiring activity provide valuable insights into areas where job opportunities are relatively scarce for graduates. As shown in the chart below, the Online Sales industry had the lowest hiring activity in 2024, followed by the Insurance industry.

The Big 5 Roles in Finance: 

The Financial field offers strong opportunties for job seekers. Accountant roles make up nearly half of all available positions in this field. Other top roles include Account Officer and Internal Auditor. To stand out, job seekers are advised to develop expertise in financial reporting, auditing, and management.

As the leading industry in job search, a career in sales offers immense opportunities for job seekers and industry professionals. Sales Executive tops the list of available roles, followed closely by Business Development Manager (BDM), and Sales Representative.
