    Head Nurse - General Ward I

    Job Code: #N00002

    The Role

    • Head Nurse - General Ward I, reporting to the Matron, will be involved in assessing, evaluating and setting nursing care standards and objectives for the ward
    • This role will be in charge of organizing and carrying out a variety of administrative duties
    • This individual will organize, compile and store all the notes on patients taken by their nursing team
    • Often, they need to provide doctors with the relevant paperwork and information on the patients currently on treatment
    • This individual will also be charged with the supervision of other nurses within their ward.

    Responsibilities

    • Maintain and provide updates for all medical records and administer all routine tests and examinations for patients.
    • Supervise and increase efficiency of staff, with direction from the Ward Manager.
    • Manage all patients in units in General Ward I, provide and recommend most cost effective methods.
    • Assist physicians to conduct everyday rounds.
    • Participate in periodic performance and evaluate performance improvement plans.
    • Supervise work of nurses in General Ward I and provide required training.
    • Administer all nursing services provided and ensure compliance to all joint commission guidelines and participate in various committees.
    • Manage all communication with staff and associate ancillary departments.
    • Organize and schedule all committee meetings and maintain efficient schedule for all nursing activities in General Ward I.
    • Implement scheduling for all shifts to ensure no overlapping and oversee all nursing facility according to hospital policies and manage all resources for same.
    • Supervise all patient care activities and ensure adherence to all hospital policies to satisfy all patient requirement and evaluate all assignments for members of shifts and maintain all policies and procedures for nurses in General Ward I.
    • Implement quality assurance program for all nursing activities and maintain control standards
    • Assist to resolve all issues in in that ward.
    • Provide orientation to all new employees and prepare training program with the guidance of Human Resources and Matron/Ward Manager.

    Qualifications

    • RN or RN/RM
    • Bachelor of Nursing Science preferred
    • Valid Licence – Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria
    • NYSC Certificate or Exemption Letter
    • 5 years prior experience
    • BLS certification preferred
    • Proven ability to manage and evaluate nursing staff
    • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
    • Proficiency in multi-tasking and handling stressful situations
    • Talent for negotiation and collaboration.

    Special Conditions

    • Employment is contingent on passing a medical screening conducted by the hospital
    • Employee will be subject to various testing including but not limited to drug and medical testing throughout the tenure of their employment

    Head Nurse, Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD)

    The Role

    • Head Nurse CSSD reporting to the Matron – Theatre, is responsible for management of the CSSD activities within the ward, providing professional help and guidance to nurses, assistants, technicians, and physicians alike.
    • They will need to ensure that the department operates efficiently providing sterile supplies to all wards and units within the hospital.
    • Their duties will include disassembling, decontaminating, inspecting and reassembling surgical/medical instruments in accordance with established procedure.

    Responsibilities

    • Coordinate the delivery of sterilising services within the CSSD in accordance with best practice principles and within a collaborative multidisciplinary framework.
    • Provide expert advice and recommendations to management in relation to sterilising practices, policies and procedures.
    • Provide expert advice on sterilising issues, policies and practices to members of the health care teams, and develop and deliver educational activities for staff and patients in relation to sterilising services.
    • Provide regular reports on the CSSD to management, and attend meetings as and when required.
    • Provide leadership in contemporary practice and promote an environment conducive to innovation and change.
    • Monitors, manages and provides relevant reports on the CSSD’s key performance and activity levels.
    • Ensure the sterility of the equipment in their charge. This includes evaluating equipment storage facilities and developing procedures to keep the equipment free of contamination.
    • Assists and reviews staff performance and development in a timely manner undertaking performance development as required.
    • Actively participate in and contributes to the organisation’s quality, safety, and work health processes, including the development and implementation of safety systems.
    • Ensures that quality and safety improvement processes are in place and acted upon.
    • Manages CSSD records to assist and inform the inventory process.
    • Ensure that all CSSD records books are properly entered and kept.

    Qualifications

    • RN or RN/RM
    • Bachelors of Nursing Science preferred
    • Valid Licence – Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria
    • NYSC Certificate or Exemption Letter
    • 5 years prior experience
    • BLS certification preferred
    • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians and hospital staff.
    • Basic computer skills.
    • Professional, friendly attitude.
    • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
    • Highly motivated team player willing to go the extra mile
