    Nigeria Director

    ABOUT THE ROLE

     

    The Amnesty International Nigeria Director is responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing strategies, operational plans and budgets for the work of Amnesty International Nigeria, towards the establishment and development of an effective AI presence in the country. For the first year the role will be heavily focused on establishing the office and its functions and recruitment of staff. Once established the Director will be accountable for management of staff, resources, office and operations of AI Nigeria ensuring the application of AI policy and quality standards across the operations throughout the office and provide political advice for AI’s work on Nigeria.

     

    Externally the Director will be responsible for building national relationships and Amnesty International’s profile in Nigeria and within the Amnesty International movement. The Director will represent AI at a senior level with the Nigerian government and others.

     

    ABOUT YOU

     

    With a proven longstanding commitment to human rights and demonstrable knowledge of political, economic and social trends in Nigeria, you possess a deep understanding of challenges of developing activist organizations and the civil society landscape in Nigeria. You have a strong track record of senior level leadership and management success, preferably in an international organization, and experience of effectively lobbying governments and intergovernmental agents for policy change.

     

    Your strong strategic and analytical thinking and people management skills, including your ability to effectively manage complex relationships has enabled you to establish a reputation as a highly credible and effective leader of change. 

     

     

    Exemplary oral and written communication skills, and fluency in English are essential for success in this role.

    Startup Consultant

    ABOUT THE ROLE

    Amnesty International wishes to establish a powerful presence in Nigeria as a national human rights entity that is part of a global human rights movement, to address national human rights priorities as well as create the possibility for people in Nigeria to join Amnesty International’s global human rights campaigns.

    The Startup Consultant will assist the set-up of a Country Office in Nigeria for Amnesty International, including

    • Researching suppliers and providers for facilities, human resources (including recruitment) and immigration matters;
    • Legal and financial set up;
    • Management and oversight of contracts and contractors once appointments in place.

    ABOUT YOU

    Amnesty International are looking for consultants with strong track records in organisation development and human resources. The consultant will have respect and credibility within the field, excellent knowledge and practice, and a good understanding of the context in Nigeria. Previous experience of establishing new offices or key office functions (HR, Payroll, Facilities etc) is required.
