    National Stop Transmission of Poliomyelitis (NSTOP) LGA Focal Officer (NSLO)

    Location: Chibok and Bayo LGAs, Borno
    Duration of Contract: Three Months

    Responsibilities
    The basic responsibilities the position is:

    • Provide technical support for LGA PEI Team  on polio eradication
    • Serve as focal point for community outreach for nomadic, scattered and other hard to reach settlements
    • Advise Chairman on polio response and routine immunization (RI) activities
    • Coordinate immunization activities of NSTOP to complement partner efforts
    • Work with LGA Chairman, LGA PEI team and community leaders to identify and train community level workers to conduct AFP surveillance, RI outreaches and immunization campaign activities.
    • Participate in campaign preparations and implementation such as micro planning, training, logistical support, supervision, monitoring and evaluation as part of the LGA team.
    • Conduct active surveillance for AFP and other priority diseases
    • Supervise fixed and outreach RI activities

    Position Requirements

    • A good bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Nursing, Veterinary Medicine, Life Sciences, Allied Health Sciences or Public Health is required and additional qualification in public health will be an advantage.
    • At least 2 years of prior working experience on immunization or related public health programs with NGOs, UN organizations, Government agencies or Ministries.
    • Level IV (fluency) Speaking/ Writing in English is required. Must be fluent in Hausa and any other local language spoken in Northern Nigeria such as Fulfulde.
    • Knowledge of routine immunization, AFP surveillance, immunization campaigns, local government structure and primary health care system in Nigeria.
    • Experience working or interacting with nomadic or other migrant communities will be an advantage
    • Incumbent is required to possess standard computer skills with experience in MS Word, MS Excel spreadsheets, MS Power-Point. Proficiency with CDC’s Epi-info statistical software will be an advantage. Ability to write concise technical activity reports is required.
    • Must be resident within the LGA of assignment at time of assumption of duty otherwise job offer is nullified.

    National Stop Transmission of Polio (NSTOP) Field Coordinator

    Location: Borno (To be based in Biu LGA), Bauchi and FCT
    Duration of contract: One year

    Responsibilities

    The responsibilities of the Field coordinator include: Support State PHC team and polio eradication emergency center (EOC) in strengthening PEI coordination at the LGA level with particular attention to nomadic/scattered populations and other under-served communities

    Provide support for polio eradication with a focus on:

    • Micro-planning for campaigns in high risk LGAs
    • Strengthening surveillance in: 
      • Major hospitals in urban areas of the northern states
      • Poor performing LGAs.
      • Nomad and other chronically missed communities
      • IDPs camps
    • Strengthening routine infant immunization (RI) and RI Data Management
    • Outbreak investigations for polio and other vaccine preventable diseases
    • Monitoring and evaluation of supplemental immunization activities including LQAs
    • Data management and technical support for DHIS2
    • Conduct operational research

    Mentor NFELTP residents assigned to the state

    Serve as NSTOP representative in the polio EOC, state GPEI team and partners forum

    Job Requirements
    Certifications, License, Physical Requirements or Other Expertise Required:

    • Education: Post graduate degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Policy, Allied Health, Veterinary Science, Biostatistics or other related field.
    • Pre-requisite: post-graduate training through a field epidemiology training program or the Epidemic intelligence Service (EIS).
    • The incumbent must have Nigeria field experience in prevention and control of vaccine preventable disease activities.
    • The incumbent must posses; Routine Immunization and AFP surveillance experience and have Polio eradication initiative.

    Knowledge Requirements:

    • Language proficiency in English Knowledge of Hausa is an added advantage

    Job Knowledge:

    • Strong technical knowledge in public health, epidemiology, routine immunization, SIAs, disease outbreak investigation, data collection and management and data analysis.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Skills in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Access; demonstrated strong analytical skills;
    • Ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing;
    • Ability to engage in successful interaction;
    • Extensive contact with members of national and local partner organizations (WHO, UNICEF, Ministries of Health)
