    Video Journalist

    Reports to: Head of Hausa Service

    Summary

    • As one of our video journalists, you will be playing a critical role in shaping our digital content and leading engagement with our audience across platforms.
    • You will be part of the digital team that delivers high quality news content online and on social media that suits our diverse audiences, especially young people.
    • You need to be a creative and resourceful journalist with understanding of what makes a good video and how videos are consumed on digital platforms.
    • Based in Abuja, you will research, initiate, gather, and produce materials for news, current affairs, and other formats, shooting and editing same.

    Job Roles

    • To work with other members of the Aminiya and Daily Trust Digital Teams, to produce high quality content that meets professional standards;
    • To generate and contribute ideas for news and content development across platform;
    • To originate, identify and produce innovative and creative video news and current affairs content for different platforms, including social media such as Facebook and Instagram;
    • To write and/or prepare scripts, sub and/or edit copy for video production and originate new formats for delivery on digital platforms;
    • To create multimedia content, craft headlines and teasers that promote our stories in such a way that they appeal to a wide range of audience;
    • To create attractive and engaging social media specific content, including pictures, text, and videos.

    Competencies

    • Thorough understanding of social media journalism and the ability to create visually appealing content, including lives and other engaging formats.
    • Ability to work well as part of a diverse team – with editors, producers and other journalists.
    • Thorough knowledge of the Nigerian media landscape and its challenges and prospects.
    • Thorough knowledge of, and interest in, local, regional, and national as well as, where appropriate, international news and current affairs.
    • The ability to work without supervision and under pressure, and deliver against tight deadlines.
    • At least three-year experience in a newsroom setting.

    Chief Security Officer

    Position Details

    • The candidate’s main responsibility would be to protect and safeguard all company’s assets, both, human and material.
    • He will also be responsible for preparing daily incident reports, and other inter office memos and ensure that all allegations of crime and other incidents are investigated and properly recorded and reported to Management.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    Develop and implement strategic security protocols and procedures for the company. These include but not limited to:

    • Develop and advise key personnel on emergency procedures.
    • Conduct regular walk-through rounds for observing the entire company premises and mitigating risk.
    • Supervision of all security personnel and giving clear direction on all security related aspects.
    • Utilize information technology tools/gadgets to protect company properties, and the entire perimeter of the company.
    • Direct and coordinate the activities of all security personnel in the company.
    • Ensure that all security staff provide services that are standard.
    • Ensure the safety and security of staff, visitors and contractors at all times.
    • Conduct investigations and compile reports in a timely manner for theft, loss or any other issues that risk the safety of the company. These may in addition include:
      • Liaison with all departmental heads to ensure employees are adhering to established security procedures.
      • Ensure compliance by staff to all security standards and preventive measures.
      • Initiate, facilitate and promote activities to foster information security awareness within the organization and related entities.
    • Perform all tasks consistently in line with the company’s standards and adhere to all legal and statutory requirements.
    • Be available for genuine emergencies within the company at any given time.
    • Partners with Human Resources department to ensure consistent sanctions for security violations.

    Qualification and Experience

    • Minimum of First Degree in Sociology, Criminology or related disciplines.
    • The candidate should preferably be a retired police officer or has served not less than (10) years.
    • Experience working in a corporate environment, being a retired colonel or other rank in the Nigeria military will be an added advantage.

    Skills and Competencies:

    • Demonstrated skills in collaboration, teamwork and problem solving to achieve goals.
    • Demonstrated listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
    • A high level of integrity and trust.
    • Possess ability to develop and implement strategic security protocols and procedures.
    • Good knowledge of computer applications.

    Head of Hausa Service

    Reports to: GED Digital and Editorial

    Summary

    • As a senior team leader reporting to the Group Executive Director, Digital and Editorial, you will be tasked with the responsibility of transforming our Hausa section into a full-fledge multimedia service and ensure that our editorial standards are maintained across print and digital platforms.
    • This will involve working with the existing structure and setting up a vibrant, digitally focused team that will be developing and creating content that meets the needs of audiences in Nigeria and Africa, on digital, print, video and audio platforms.

    Competencies and Key Responsibilities

    • Maintain and improve high quality standards of Media Trust journalism and professional ethics.
    • Develop a vision with a detailed short, medium and long-term plan which will lead to full implementation and realisation of the end goal.
    • Explore potentials for expansion through creative programming and partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
    • Conduct research on best practices and models based on data to inform content creation and publication teams.
    • Identify and develop a strategy for reaching young and underserved audience not only in Nigeria, but across the Hausa-speaking world.
    • Ability to make sound and quick editorial judgement, manage emotions and lead others to find a way out when under pressure or working with tight deadline.
    • Develop new creative ways of audience and revenue growth and ensure value for money in all new and existing investments.
    • Set team and individual objectives, build morale, measure and address performance issues quickly and fairly.
    • Ensure collaboration, judicial use of resources within the wider newsroom and the organization in general.
    • Serve as a change agent by ensuring that best practices are clearly communicated and shared among teams.
    • Ability to effectively contribute to the overall Media Trust strategy and to function as a member of the editorial management team.

    The Ideal Candidate

    • The person must be fluent in written and spoken Hausa and English languages, with a deep understanding of the Nigerian media market, digital trends and proven newsroom leadership experience.
    • The person should also have experience in content distribution strategy, analyzing trends and data sets, managing budgets, and communicating with senior editorial leadership.

    Social Media Producer

    Reports to: Online Editor

    Summary

    • The Social Media producer handles the social media and audience engagement of both Daily Trust contents across different platforms, reporting directly to the team lead and the Online editor.
    • He/She distributes content and engages our readers on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and newer platforms.
    • The ideal candidate should have some level of video editing skills and the ability to produce appealing visual content for different social media platforms.

    Job Roles

    • Work closely with online editors to share stories on social media platforms
    • Uploads stories from the CMS.
    • Identify, plan and execute data-driven, creative, measurable social media and community engagement activities.
    • Create copies for paid and organic social media, banner ads, publicity materials, and e-newsletters to build an audience and drive engagement.
    • Implement the membership engagement programmes for retention of current members and acquisition of new subscribers.

    Competencies
