    Shelter Manager

    Location: Gbagada, Lagos

    Job Summary

    • To be accountable for delivering high quality care to the children and young people living in the children home.
    • You are responsible for delivery of all care services, as well as the strategic planning for developments within the home, and all day to day management matters.
    • To provide high quality care services that supports the needs of the children, to be an advocate for their well-being and to provide strong, motivational leadership to staff.
    • To demonstrate the ability to build on the well-established principles and practice standards existing and proactively contribute to the continuous improvement of these standards.

    • Safety
    • Providing a quality service to children and young people.
    • Child engagement
    • Supporting the development and learning of children and young people in the shelter.
    • Ensuring that the service is financially sustainable including by safely supporting new referrals into the service and managing costs appropriately.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • To manage a Residential Home and ensure the efficient operation of the service in the shelter.
    • To co-ordinate and monitor administrative functions of the home and evaluate standards of performance.
    • To assist and supervise in the continual assessment of the needs of the children and young people and to identify and prepare specific development plans to ensure the most appropriate service provision.
    • To monitor arrangements for any holidays, recreational outings and social activities with the children and young people and to ensure the implementation of related risk assessments.
    • To ensure that there are regular stimulating and meaningful activities for the children and young people to engage in which reflect their personal interests and preferences and that these are further developed in to new opportunities and experiences.
    • To contribute to a comprehensive staff training and development programme to enable the service to have available all necessary skills and levels of expertise to meet the needs of the young people.
    • To contribute to the development of appropriate relationships with and between staff, young people and other stakeholders.
    • To ensure at all times that professional ethics and behavior are demonstrated by all staff at all times. Actively co-ordinate the service provision and be a focal point for support, advice and coaching to all staff within the Home.
    • To assist in the management, appraisal, supervision and support of all residential staff.
    • To be involved in recruitment of staff including vetting, interviewing and inducting new employees
    • To organize duty roasters in order to ensure that the needs of the children and young people are met at all times.
    • To ensure that the Company's financial and administrative procedures are adhered to and to work within a set budget.
    • To work with other heads of staff to ensure that all staff work together and with others towards meeting the emotional and physical needs of the young people and planning for positive outcomes.
    • Responsibility for safeguarding and promoting individual rights, providing good quality care which is free from oppression and where differences are respected and valued in the shelter.
    • Maintain confidentiality of information and work in line with all relevant codes of practice and governing legislation
    • Ensure that all necessary documentation required by regulators is completed to a high standard and be available for inspections, checks or interviews as requested.
    • To promote appropriate and therapeutic relationships between staff and young people and their families, promoting the children and young people's involvement and participation in the day-to-day life of the Home.
    • Promote the health and safety of employees at work and of people supported through the implementation of the organization’s corporate Policy for Health, Safety and Welfare at Work in accordance with all relevant statutory requirements
    • Maintain a clean and safe environment; ensure that the physical state of the building is maintained to a high standard and that all repair/maintenance problems are dealt with promptly.
    • To participate in a range of corporate and management activities as defined by the Director of Operations.
    • To embed a culture of high aspirations and ambition for the children and young people in which young people experience positive outcomes.
    • Ensure that safe working practices are employed by all staff at all times in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work legislation. Will co-operate with designated personnel exercising their responsibilities in relation to the Health and Safety at Work Act.

    Qualifications

    • Candidates should possess a Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 3 years work experience.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Ability to demonstrate reasoning, numeracy, literacy and technology skills to required standard.
    • Ability to work as a team, working closely with colleagues and other agencies.
    • Ability to solve problems.
    • Able to work within the principles of the Children’s Act.
    • Demonstrate a sound working knowledge of Child Protection Issues and Procedures.
    • Sound knowledge of Children’s Homes procedures and relevant issues
    • Ability to exercise authority.
    • Proven leadership and management abilities.
    • Excellent communication skills – both verbally and written.
    • Ability to produce reports.
    • Working knowledge of the National Care Standards 2000, Children’s Homes Regulations 2001.
    • Knowledge on how to perform CPR.

    Child Psychologist

    Location: Wuse 2, Abuja (FCT)

    Job Summary

    • The Child Psychologist will be responsible for providing mental health services and counselling, case management, consultative services to the Foundation’s clients and their non-offending family members.
    • She will be responsible for providing diagnostic assessments, therapy, counselling, clinical services and support services for a diverse caseload including children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse, are or in a depressed state, and or communication challenges.
    • She must be deeply familiar with child focused and trauma informed community resources and be able to harness them to support survivors when required.
    • The child psychologist will be responsible for coordinating mental health services for the Foundation, and work with the Foundation’s Multi-Disciplinary team in providing professional service response to survivors of child sexual abuse.
    • This position requires on-call responsibility, a high degree of flexibility in responding to emergency needs of survivors and non-offending families with good organizational and documentation skills to ensure that all services are provided in accordance with the professional ethics of The Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON).

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • The Child Psychologist will conduct individual therapy with clients and provide psychological assessment to clients.
    • Provide assistance to the Lead Child Psychotherapist and other team members in ensuring all treatment plans are being run effectively and as intended.
    • Keep and maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients and clients’ treatment
    • Gather information about clients’ mental health needs and resources that could be used in conjunction with therapy
    • Utilize a harm reduction technique when working with clients who have suffered abuse.
    • Assist in providing hands on training and counselling for parent/guardians and non-offending family members.
    • Assist in preparing court progress report of cases and other documentations e.g. clients’ progress report and schedule of dates for counselling session.
    • Monitoring the mental health of children at the Shelter; updating the lead child psychotherapist on children that are about to leave the Shelter so that the lead therapist can have counselling sessions with their parents.
    • Assess clients' mental condition based on review of client information, interviews, observation, and tests.
    • Assist in developing and implementing treatment plans based on assessment of client’s needs, clinical experience and knowledge.
    • Facilitate sessions with individuals, groups, or families and conducting initial assessment of families.
    • Providing counselling face to face, over the telephone, or online.
    • Building a relationship of trust and respect with clients. Listening to clients' concerns, empathizing with them, and helping them to see things more clearly or in a different way.
    • Assist in referring clients to specialists, monitoring progress during treatment, and creating a comfortable environment for clients to be treated in.
    • Build strong rapport with clients and make accurate assessments of their problems whether mental/emotional.
    • Improve long term outcomes for children and families by providing services that are effective during therapy, improving care taking and coping skills
    • Assist in helping clients to deal with crisis, illness or injuries
    • Monitors progress toward treatment goals by evaluating and adjusting services provided.
    • Maintain the foundation’s credibility by assisting in establishing working relationships with sponsoring, advisory, and related service agencies.
    • Participate in community outreach activities Assist the case management team with keeping files for each client and enter data and progress notes into the appropriate electronic databases.
    • Participate in the Foundation’s fundraising activities when necessary.
    • Assist in providing assessment, emergency intervention, mental health and case management services to any caseload as needed.
    • Promote the foundation by ensuring an understanding of program services available for clients; adhering to a professional code of conduct.
    • Carry out and lead quarterly training sessions for CHL Counselors as well as new CHL Counsellors on Counselling skills, effective response and interventions.
    • Collaborate with the CYF team to initiate and implement interventions that will contribute to improved services rendered by the organization.
    • Keep the overreaching aim of the organization by ensuring the organization maintains its strategic vision.
    • Carry out other duties required by the management of the organisation.
    • Provide contents for the Foundation’s social media platform on the mental health of survivors and non-offending families.

    Qualifications

    • A Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or any other relevant field
    • A Master’s degree in the relevant field (an added advantage)
    • A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience working as a child psychologist
    • Licensed professional in relevant field
    • Experience in emergency response is an added advantage
    • Highly organized and systematic with excellent attention to detail.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
    • Knowledge in report writing documentation.
