The jobholder leads (subject to supervision and oversight of the Head of Legal) the development/interpretation of legal documents, and checkmates the work of the experts/specialists.
Provides superior insight on areas of specialization, and contributes thought leadership and innovation that influences the advancement of the profession/function within the organization.
Coordinate operational activities within the Legal Department.
Responsibilities
Oversee the drafting and negotiation of legal agreements and legal documents for the Regions, Head Office, and SPUs.
Oversee the review, analyze, and provide advisory support in relation to legal agreements, legislation (proposed and enacted), and legal documents for the Regions through the Legal Officer(s).
Provide internal advisory services and legal support to the business units and departments.
Follow through on the execution of departmental initiatives as contained in the departmental strategy, particularly in relation to corporate matters.
Provide proactive guidance to members of the legal department across the Regions and oversee their daily operations.
Participate in the identification of legal risk areas within the organization and proffer tactics/strategies for preventing and mitigating against them.
Render periodic reports on legal operations to the – (1) Head of Legal; and (2) Executive Management. Track adherence to the legal policies and procedures of the organization.
Maintain a sound working relationship with external solicitors handling and advising on corporate matters and carrying out periodic evaluations of their performance
Provide support in setting up and running an efficient and reliable Legal Matter Management System Ensure the development of service level agreements with internal departments.
Provide advice to employees as required on legal implications of internal policies and actions.
Carry out periodic sensitization on legal pronouncements on select subjects with the hope of minimizing or eliminating legal risks.
Maintain Law Library within the departments.
Any other task as assigned by the Line Manager
Requirements
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Law
Bachelor of Laws from Nigerian Law School
Member of the Nigerian Bar Association
Minimum of 10 years experience with 3 years occupying a similar position in a model organization.
