    Routine Immunization (RI) Master Trainer

    Overview

    • Nigeria has set an ambitious target to achieve at least 80% coverage for all routine immunization antigens Nationally and in every state by 2027, with a strong focus on reducing zero dose and under immunized children.
    • This requires a resilient PHC system, skilled health workforce, robust cold chain and logistics, and a strong culture of data use for action.
    • The Nigeria Strategy for Immunization and PHC System Strengthening (NSIPSS) 2023 2027 provides the National roadmap to realize these goals and emphasizes integrated service delivery, sustainable domestic financing, optimized micro planning, and equity focused approaches to reach urban slums, hard to reach and marginalized populations.

    Purpose of Assignment

    • MCGL-RISE IHP seeks experienced Routine Immunization Master Trainers to lead the capacity strengthening of RI providers in supported states.
    • The assignment will build competencies across key RI domains including service delivery, cold chain and vaccine management, session planning and micro planning, injection safety and waste management, surveillance and Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) detection/reporting, data quality and use, interpersonal communication and community linkage, and supportive supervision.

    Responsibilities

    • The Master Trainers will support state and LGA teams to implement standardized capacity building for RI providers in secondary and primary health facilities, aligned to National policies and NSIPSS 2023 2027.
    • Activities include pre training preparation, delivery of competency based training using updated modules and an agreed agenda, post training mentorship, and contribution to data driven performance reviews.

    Expected Outcomes

    • Improved knowledge and skills of RI health workers across priority competencies with percentage point mean improvement between pre and post tests.
    • Operational facility micro plans updated, with actionable strategies for zero dose/under immunized tracking and outreach.
    • Strengthened cold chain and vaccine management practices demonstrated through supervision checklists and on the job coaching.
    • Improved completeness/timeliness of RI reporting and routine data use in monthly facility meetings.
    • Documented best practices, lessons, and an implementation plan for follow up supportive supervision.

    Deliverables

    • Reviewed and adapted RI training agenda and materials aligned to National guidelines; validated slides, job aids, and checklists.
    • Facilitation of competency based training sessions (see sample agenda) including practicum and hands on demonstrations.
    • Facility action plans for RI performance improvement (per facility trained).
    • Supportive supervision/mentorship plan and tools; at least one post training mentorship visit per facility within 4 6 weeks.
    • Comprehensive training report with attendance, pre/post test analysis, photos, recommendations, and follow up actions.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelors Degree or higher in Public Health, Nursing, Medicine or related field; EPI-specific certification an advantage.
    • Documented expertise in RI, cold chain and logistics, AEFI surveillance, data management, training facilitation, and supportive supervision.
    • 7 - 10 years experience delivering RI capacity building with state/LGA systems and partners.
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills and proficiency in English; local language ability is an asset.
    • Member of the RI Master trainers.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office for training management and reporting.

    Coordination & Reporting:

    • Master Trainers will work under the guidance of the National/State Primary Health Care
    • Development Agency/Board in collaboration with MCGL-RISE IHP and partners.
    • Daily coordination will be with the State Immunization and Logistics teams and LGA Routine
    • Immunization Focal Persons. Reports and deliverables will be submitted to the JHPIEGO RI
    • Technical Lead with copies to SPHCDA and NPHCDA focal points as applicable.

    Standards & References:

    • All activities must align with National RI policies, the NSIPSS 2023 2027, and partner guidance.
    • Training content should reflect updated RI schedule, cold chain SOPs, AEFI guidelines, National data tools (tally sheets, registers, summary forms), and DHIS2 reporting standards.

    Capacity Builder (MCGL Implementing States on RMNCAEH + N Quality of Care)

    Purpose of Assignment

    • To support the State Ministries of Health in building the capacity of two implementing States, Ebonyi, FCT and Kebbi.
    • On the RMNCAEH+N Quality of Care strategy, thereby improving health outcomes for women, newborns, and children.

    Responsibilities

    • Build capacity of state teams on the RMNCAEH+N QoC strategy
    • Support the establishment and functionality of QoC structures at state and LGA levels
    • Promote data-driven decision-making and continuous quality improvement

    Scope of Work
    The consultant will support the following activities in the two states:

    • Train state teams on RMNCAEH+N QoC strategies
    •  Train teams on dashboard use
    • Establish and inaugurate QI teams
    • Review and align data collection tools with QoC documentation needs.

    Expected Outcomes:

    •  All three states trained on RMNCAEH+N QoC strategy
    • Active participation in TWGs
    • Regular submission of QoC data from all states

    Required Qualifications

    • Master’s Degree (PhD is an added advantage)
    • Medical Degree (MBBS, Nursing / Midwifery, Pharmacy) with MPH
    • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience
    • At least 7 years of consultancy experience with local/international organizations
    • Experience working with Federal and State Ministries of Health

    Desirable:

    • Postgraduate degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology
    • Publications in maternal and newborn health, especially RMNCH QoC

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Proficiency in MS Office
    •  Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
    •  Ability to work under pressure
    •  Excellent written and spoken English

    Maternal, Perinatal and Child Death Surveillance Responses (MPCDSR) Capacity Builder

    Overview

    • In Nigeria, Maternal, Perinatal and Child Death Surveillance Responses (MPCDSR) serves as a continuous quality improvement system which identifies, notifies, reviews, analyses and responds to maternal, perinatal and child death to prevent recurrence.
    • A 3-day standardization meeting precedes the training; this will tend to harmonize the training modules, tools and agree on how the various modules will be taken and who will handle each state.
    • The training will be held at two levels; the first level will be for healthcare workers at the various facilities while the second level will be for stakeholders at the community level tailoring the curriculum to suite the various levels.
    • The facility level trainings will operationalize these standards which includes strengthening notification, case identification audit/review quality, data use and response cycles contributing to accountability and learning loops.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensure standardization by aligning state stakeholders on national MPCDSR policy, tools, roles, and data flows.
    • Build the capacity of MPCDSR committees to conduct high-quality, no-blame reviews both at facility and community levels.
    • Ensure system strengthening by establishing/re-activating functional MPCDSR committees at state, LGA, and facility levels.

    Scope of Work Standardization Meeting

    • Review and adapt training modules ensuring uniformity across states Harmonize on presentation methods
    • Assign roles to consultants in various states

    Training on MPCDSR:

    • Conduct a 3-day training on MPCDSR at the facility level Conduct a 2-day training on MPCDSR at the community level Write a comprehensive report for both trainings

    Expected Deliverables

    • Functional MPCDSR committees established across states, LGAs and Facilities levels. Capacity of MPCDSR committee members built on quality reporting.
    • Comprehensive and quality technical report of the MPCDSR training submitted. Evidence of knowledge gain by the participants at the end of the training

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in medicine, Nursing, Public Health, or a child health–related field (advanced degree preferred).
    • Certified MPCDSR facilitator. Minimum of 5 years of experience conducting MPCDSR trainings and capacity building.
    • Demonstrated ability to apply adult learning and competency-based training methodologies.
    • Experience collaborating with government health institutions and development partners.
    • Strong report-writing, communication, and data interpretation skills.

    Duration of Consultancy:

    • This consultancy is for a period of 7 days (1 day pre-planning meeting, 5 days for training at both facility and community levels and 1 day for report writing).

    Master Trainers

    Purpose of Assignment

    • The United States’ Momentum Country and Global Leadership Integrated Health Project (MCGL- RISE IHP) project, implemented by Jhpiego, is seeking the expertise of Master Trainers to support the capacity strengthening of health workers on Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) & Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) in FCT, Kebbi and Ebonyi States.
    • This initiative aims to enhance the capacity of healthcare providers to deliver the quality nutrition services and improve nutritional outcomes for women, newborns, and children across the implementing states.

    Responsibilities

    • To build the capacity of health workers on IMAM & MIYCN.
    • To strengthen the quality of nutrition services across all the implementing health facilities.
    • To familiarize the health workers with the updated national IMAM & MIYCN guidelines.

    Scope

    • To strengthen the capacity of MCGL- RISE IHP implementing states (FCT, Kebbi and Ebonyi) for the effective implementation of
    • Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) & Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) services.

    Expected Outcome:

    • Capacity of health workers strengthened on Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition and Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition in FCT, Kebbi and Ebonyi States.

    Deliverables

    • Review existing IMAM & MIYCN training modules.
    • Review and adopt the training agenda for IMAM & MIYCN in line with national guidelines.
    • Prepare and validate training materials (presentations), job aids, and reference tools tailored to the Nigerian context.
    • Conduct 7 days MIYCN training and 5 days of IMAM training for health workers.
    • Enhance knowledge of health workers on nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive interventions.
    • Provide technical support for the development of facility-level action plans to implement integrated nutrition services.
    • Develop/review and disseminate a monitoring and supervision checklist to ensure ongoing quality assurance.
    • Produce a comprehensive training report, including photographs, attendance records, pre- and post-test results, and key recommendations.
    • Identify and document best practices and lessons learned during the capacity-building process.
    • Provide technical guidance on integrating community-based volunteers into facility-level service delivery.
    • Recommend strategies for strengthening linkages between facility-based services, community outreach, and referral systems.
    • Ensure all deliverables are alligned with Nigeria’s national nutrition policies and guidelines as well as global best practices

    Required Qualifications

    • A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Public health, Nursing, Medicine or a related health field.
    • Masters or PhD is an added advantage.
    • Certification or formal training in IMAM, MIYCN and Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI)
    • Additional certification on training facilitation, project management or monitoring and evaluation is an asset.
    • Over a decade of hands-on experience designing and implementing nutrition programs in both humanitarian and development contexts.
    • Strong track record in building the capacity of State Master Trainers with a particular focus on secondary health facilities.
    • Skilled in developing and facilitating trainings on IMAM& MIYCN in alignment with Nigeria’s national guidelines
    • Extensive experience collaborating with government health systems, including effective coordination with State Stakeholders
    • Adept at creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), job aids, and training manuals tailored to local contexts.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with proven ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
    • Certified National master trainer with extensive facilitation experience.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications for program management and reporting.
    • Fluency in English; proficiency in local languages (e.g., Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo) is an added advantage.
