Packet Core Engineer at Proten

Description

• We are seeking an experienced Packet Core Engineer to manage and maintain a Huawei LTE Packet Core network. 
• The successful candidate will support network availability, service performance, fault resolution, capacity planning, and network upgrades while ensuring reliable connectivity for subscribers.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain Huawei LTE Packet Core elements, including MME, SGW, PGW, PCRF, and HSS, as applicable.
• Monitor network performance, alarms, node health, resource utilisation, and service availability.
• Conduct routine health checks, preventive maintenance, configuration backups, and approved software upgrades.
• Troubleshoot LTE connectivity issues, subscriber authentication failures, APN problems, session drops, and bearer establishment failures.
• Analyse network signalling and protocol traces to identify faults and support resolution.
• Investigate major incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Monitor network performance indicators, traffic trends, capacity utilisation, and service quality.
• Identify potential capacity constraints and recommend improvements or expansions.
• Coordinate with Huawei technical support and internal engineering teams to resolve network issues.
• Support network integration, upgrades, testing, and migration to virtualised or cloud-based platforms.
• Maintain accurate network documentation, configuration records, technical reports, and incident logs.
• Follow network security, access control, change management, and operational procedures.
• Support redundancy testing, disaster recovery, and service continuity activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Telecommunications, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in telecommunications, including hands-on LTE Packet Core operations.
• Proven experience managing Huawei LTE Packet Core equipment in a live network environment.
• Strong understanding of LTE EPC architecture, subscriber authentication, APN configuration, bearer management, GTP, Diameter, and Quality of Service (QoS).
• Good knowledge of IP networking, routing, VLANs, IPv4/IPv6, and transport interfaces.
• Experience analysing protocol traces using Wireshark or similar tools.
• Familiarity with Huawei network management systems and troubleshooting tools.
• Understanding of Linux/Unix systems, network redundancy, and disaster recovery.
• Experience handling network incidents, performance optimisation, and technical escalations.
• Exposure to virtualised Packet Core solutions, NFV, cloud-based platforms, or network migration projects is an advantage.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
