    WASH Public Health/Hygiene Promotion Assistant

    Slot - 2 positions

    Job Summary

    Public Health/Hygiene Promotion assistant will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Hygiene Promotion activities/WASH and NFIs distribution activities in the IDP Camps and communities under the BHA   Project in Sokoto. He/she is overall responsible for implementing approved technical approaches to hygiene promotion, maintaining program quality, and that all hygiene objectives are met on time and within the budget.

    Essential Job Functions

    Project Implementation and Supervision: Ensure that the hygiene promotion activities are implemented in a timely and professional manner (as per SPHERE and COOPI standards) and in line with beneficiary needs putting in mind the BHA project objectives and ensuring that all hygiene promotion activities are in line with project strategy and design. 

    Essential Job Functions

    Project Implementation and Supervision:

    • To assist WASH Public Health Promotion officer in the coordination of the WASH Public Health Promotion activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets, and plans
    • Directly implement hygiene promotion activities in IDP camps and communities; this includes household visits, hygiene awareness sessions, and distribution of hygiene promotion materials/NFIs.
    • Coordinate closely with the WASH Officer-Water and Sanitation and Hygiene Promoters over water quality and beneficiary needs and preferences regarding water collection points
    • If requested, participate in any inter-sectorial assessment process, including analysis and planning.
    • Directly manage the day-to-day hygiene promotion activities in the field locations.
    • Ensure that hygiene promotion activities meet agreed objectives within the timeframe.
    • Ensure program activities foster accountability to beneficiaries, gender, and protection sensitivity and inclusion are adequately addressed in programming.
    • Distribute Information, Communication, and Education (IEC) materials to Community hygiene Promoters and train hygiene promoters on their appropriate use.
    • Provide technical support and training for hygiene promoters, community volunteers, community leaders, kids’ hygiene under protection, and WASH committees.
    • Provide regular reports, document results, and maintain detailed records
    • Provide weekly reports of progress on hygiene promotion activities.
    • Maintain comprehensive control systems on materials and tools used including notes on the quality of materials and detailed NFI distribution records.
    • Maintain close links and collaboration with other WASH teams and sectors including Health, Nutrition, Protection, and MPCA teams throughout the project and support where needed.
    • Assist the WASH Officer – Hygiene promotion to identify, train and support Community hygiene promoters, WASH committee members, and Kids hygiene club members.
    • Supervise and manage community Hygiene promoters.
    • Maintain open and professional relations with team members, promoting a strong team spirit and providing oversight and guidance to enable work teams to successfully complete their tasks on time and within budget.
    • Responsible for community hygiene promoter’s weekly reports and weekly work plans.

    Information Management/Reporting:

    • Provide periodic reports of field site works and challenges to the team lead.
    • Ensure that all construction/infrastructure data within the staff’s portfolio of sites is well managed and provides an accurate representation of the reality on the ground.
    • Submit regular reports related to the work progress to the WASH officer.

    Security management responsibilities:

    • Responsible for the day-to-day security management as it relates to program implementation.
    • Abide by the security procedures and policies of the organization and report any breaches.
    • Perform other relevant tasks as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Preferred Skills and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree/HND, OND in Public Health, Geology, Microbiology, and any other relevant field with rich field experience.
    • Minimum of two years experience in WASH in an emergency, hygiene promotion/NFIs distribution especially in IDP camps.
    • Experience in the establishment and training of Hygiene Promoters, and WASH committees in IDP camps.
    • Good communication skills, effective representation, liaison with community members and leaders, community engagement, and mobilization.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook Access).
    • Good English language skills (verbal and written)
    • Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where the network may be limited.
    • Fluency in Hausa and English.

    WASH Technical Assistant

    Job Summary

    The WASH Technical Assistant is to provide support to the WASH officer in all aspects of COOPI WASH Technical programs planning, infrastructures design, implementation, construction supervision, monitoring, and evaluation under the BHA project in Sokoto state. He/she will assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to the plan

    Essential Job Functions

    Project Implementation and Supervision:

    • To assist WASH officer in the coordination of the WASH Technical activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets, and plans.
    • To assist the WASH officer in all aspects of WASH infrastructures design, construction monitoring, quality control, program planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
    • To assist in the identification of community water and sanitation needs.
    • To develop technical specifications and bills of quantities (BOQ) for works
    • To assess the water and sanitation training needs in the IDP camps and communities and assists in the development of appropriate training materials and plans.
    • Conducts water quality testing and sanitary inspection at water points.
    • Provides technical assistance to the WASH officer and local counterparts on issues of water and sanitation information and communication strategies.
    • Assists in the establishment, and training of community-based WASH committees as well as monitoring their performance.
    • Assists in the compilation of weekly, monthly WASH, and quarterly Technical reports, program documents, , and activities forecast and expenditures.
    • Involve and inform communities and community leaders about the activities
    •  Assist the WASH Team in Breaking down the annual operational plans into weekly, monthly, and quarterly implementation plans.
    • He/she will work closely with WASH Assistant Public Health/Hygiene promotion in planning and conducting all WASH field activities as planned.
    • To assist in ensuring that procurement, development, and distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to procedures.
    • Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

    Information Management/Reporting:

    • Good experience with effective contractor supervision and contractor performance management and evaluation especially in WASH.
    • Good Knowledge of Nigerian construction standards, codes and regulations.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook Access).
    • Proficiency with AUTOCAD engineering design software application.
    • Good English language skills (verbal and written)
    • Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where the network may be limited.
    • Fluency in Hausa and English.

    Complaint Response/Feedback Mechanism Assistant

    Slot - 3 Positions

    General objective  

    The CRM/AAP assistant will provide support to multi-sectorial intervention towards IDPs in Northwest Nigeria, in the design, planning, monitoring and evaluation of the program by managing complaint and feedback data and facilitating program implementation at LGA level, under the guidance and direct supervision of the Accountability Officer.

    The CRM/AAP Assistant will be responsible for the collection and the resolution of complaints in the field at LGA level. He/she will ensure accuracy of complaint registration and provision of feedback to beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries.

    The CRM/AAP Assistant will be responsible for data gathering, analysis and reporting activities. She/he will assist in tracking progress of key indicators and provide timely reports to the Accountability officer and MEAL Officer.

     Main Responsibilities and Tasks

    Under the direct supervision of the Accountability Officer and indirect supervision of the MEAL Officer, and in collaboration with other collaborators of the projects and of the Base, She/he will:

    Be in charge of the registration of complaints received by beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries North-West Coopi intervention area.

    • Actively participate in sensitization and information-sharing sessions for the beneficiaries and the communities related to their right to file complaints and receive feedback.
    • Maintenance of an effective record and filing system for all complaints solved and pending issues including correspondences and other related documents for quick and easy reference.
    • Report any issue which needs immediate action to the Accountability or MEAL Officer and follow up on the resolution of such issues.
    • Provide counselling and sensitization to the targeted and non-targeted population who come to file their complaints, ensure that they understand the programme and the project targeting criteria.
    • Be in charge of providing feedback to the complainants when complaints are resolved, with the support of the Community-based Project Management Committees.
    • Treat beneficiaries with dignity and apply COOPI’s Code of Ethics and Conduct, the UN Convention for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in the field.

      Work with program teams to ensure COOPI information on program activities is shared within LGAs and provide for beneficiary feedback in line with relevant guidelines and frameworks

    • Collaborate with government and humanitarian partners to ensure the smooth sharing of information in consultation with the Accountability Officer/Project Manager/MEAL Manager and in accordance to COOPI data sharing protocol
    • Support the program team in facilitating the process of setting up an appropriate Complaint Response Mechanism at the Ward/ LGA level and handling complaint/ feedback.

    Profile of the Candidate (Education, Training, Competences, Skills)

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Degree/Diploma in Sociology, Economics, Rural Development, Development Studies, Statistics, Demography or related subject, with previous experience working in developmental projects

    Skills & Experience

    Essential:

    • Be professional, motivated, flexible and culturally sensitive
    • 6 months to 1 year in CRM related work experience with an INGO  
    • Experience in data collection, collation, analysis, and report writing
    • Have excellent communication, writing and analytical skills.
    • Be excellent in communication skills and proficient in report writing
    • Be resident and familiar with the terrain in the Northeast Nigeria.
    • Experience designing and leading capacity building and training for national teams.
    • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office programming (Access, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, and Word).
    • Knowledge and experience in using database specific software.
    • Excellent communication, writing and analytical skills.
    • Experience designing and leading capacity building and training for national teams Preferred:
    • Knowledge of the local language (Hausa).
    • Proficient in data collection and handling bulk registers of beneficiaries.
    • Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where services are limited.
