    MHPSS Assistant

    Responsibilities

    • Assist in delivering training and workshops for staff and Survivors/Participant
    • Support in the creation of materials including publicity documents.
    • Engage with the community to deliver and promote CATAI MHPSS project activities in the designated locations.
    • Assist in writing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, monitoring and evaluation activity, and progress reports of project activities including monthly reporting to the protection coordinator.
    • Assist in the implementation of preventive MHPSS interventions at the community and PHC level.
    • Assist in coordinating referrals.
    • In coordination with community mobilizers use participatory methods to adapt activities in accordance to the needs of the different target groups (children, women etc)
    • Assist in the identification and registration of psychosocial needs of beneficiaries based on the vulnerability criteria of the Humanitarian PSS standard operating procedures (SOPs)
    • Actively promote the availability of counseling services and carry out, individual or group counseling (psychological first aid (PFA) and psychosocial support (PSS), basic psycho-educational sessions to children, adolescents, and caregivers/ families (when needed), in order to alleviate their psychosocial difficulties.
    • Refer clients to other specialists or other institutions for further assistance, when necessary, in line with the available local referral pathways, to ensure an effective and efficient case management process.
    • Participate in the creation, maintenance, and updating of any material needed for counseling activities.
    • Keep files and statistics of daily activities and participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss special cases with the supervisor respecting confidentiality, and or with the MHPSS Officer
    • Inform and discuss with line manager any difficulties and problems of any kind arising during the day-to-day activities.
    • Take an active part in MHPSS-related training topics for case workers, PSS facilitators, community mobilizers and community volunteers such as community-based child protection networks (CBCPN), Teachers, PTAs, SMC, Child Protection Help Desks (CPHD), leaders, and other stakeholders
    • Hold regular meetings with case workers, PSS facilitators and community mobilizers to discuss successes, challenges, and way forward.
    • Representation in community meetings, MHPSS working groups, GBV sub-cluster, etc. and act as focal point in the absence of an MHPSS Officer for MHPSS in the location
    • Support caseworkers, PSS facilitators and community mobilizers in emergency response and comprehensive case management issues relevant to the role.
    • Actively engage the case and caregiver(s) to participate in the case management process and share information appropriately in line with case management information management protocol
    • Ensure that files, registers and computer databases are used appropriately and correctly and ensure caseworkers adhere to proper documentation and data protection protocols
    • Document best practices, case studies and learnings for reporting and evaluation purposes.
    • Prepare and submit MHPSS reports regularly as indicated by the reporting schedule and submit to the MHPSS Officer.
    • Receive reports of cases from community-based child protection networks (CBCPN), Child Protection Help Desks (CPHD), children clubs etc. and give feedback as necessary.
    • Plan and conduct awareness-raising sessions on prevention and in response to concerns identified
    • Conduct monthly regular meetings with community groups and stakeholders to monitor progress and ensure smooth running of the project.
    • Performs other functions related to Child Protection activities and initiatives that may be assigned by MHPSS Officer.

    Requirements

    • Education: Degree in Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, social science/or equivalent experience
    • 2 years experience in a similar position.
    • Experience in having implemented psychosocial support programmes
    • Experience of working directly with children and/or adolescents
    • Training skills, ability to conduct trainings
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Capacity to work with a team and to work under pressure.
    • Computer skills in word, excel, PowerPoint.
    • Strong organizational and planning skills with good communication skills
    • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
    • Knowledge of the area, socio-culture and local language where the post is located as an added advantage.
    • Work experience with children and families, especially knowledge of child rights and participation
    • Experience in community facilitation and mobilization
    • Previous NGO experience, including an understanding of the neutral status of a national NGO.
    • Fluency in written and spoken English and other vernacular languages of the community
    • Understanding of accounting issues in the charity/NGO sector

    Protection Assistant

    Responsibilities

    • Support the Protection and education officer in the Identification, Registration, and prioritization of protection concerns, conduct follow-up visits, create and implement action plans to address protection concerns affecting children
    • Identify and address protection-related emergency needs of at-risk children promptly.
    • Use appropriate questioning techniques, reflective listening, and suitable exploratory activities to identify needs, issues, and aspirations.
    • Assist children in gaining and utilizing the necessary skills to participate in community and society, through academic support, behavioral control, social skills, communication skills, successful interpersonal behavior, and coping skills
    • Design the appropriate activities for children benefiting from case management respecting the characteristics of each case.

    Requirements
    Education:

    • Social work, community development or other relevant major or minimum 2 years of previous experience as a social worker/caseworker with I/NGO;

    AAP / CFM Assistant

    Responsibilities

    • Operationalize a Complain Feedback Mechanism at facility and community levels.
    • Ensure the confidentiality, transparency, and proper documentation of all feedback and complaints.
    • Guide beneficiaries in lodging complaints or providing feedback, ensuring their privacy and dignity are maintained.
    • Maintain Complaint registration and sharing to the central CFMC focal for urgent response and follow-up.
    • Communicate outcomes and responses effectively to beneficiaries and communities.
    • Maintain an organized database for tracking resolved and pending complaints with appropriate follow-up.
    • Liaise with relevant stakeholders, including local authorities and service providers, to resolve issues outside the scope of the facility.
    • Participate in camp-level accountability and information-sharing coordination meetings.
    • Actively advocate for and integrate the four pillars of accountability—information sharing, participation, feedback mechanisms, and continual learning—into program delivery to ensure services are transparent, inclusive, and adaptive to community needs.
    • Provide clear, context-sensitive communication to beneficiaries, ensuring they fully understand program services, their rights, and the mechanisms available for them to provide feedback or seek assistance.

    • Establish and maintain an linkage with other sectors, ensuring relevant sectoral -related issues/feedback are referred efficiently and beneficiaries are connected to the appropriate support.
    • Provide consistent appropriate advice and information/ counseling to participants through facility helpdesks and household visits, addressing concerns and guiding them to access services effectively.
    • Identify and actively address obstacles preventing community members from accessing the feedback and accountability system, prioritizing inclusivity.
    • Organize and promote opportunities for communities to share experiences, concerns, and challenges with the Complaint Feedback and Response Mechanism (CFRM), ensuring continuous improvement and stronger engagement.
    • Support the MEAL team in planning and implementing AAP scaling up, including linking feedback with programmatic improvements, conducting sessions on community feedback analysis, and fostering a learning environment to drive evidence-based decision-making.
    • Read and ensure a full understanding of CATAIs Gender Minimum Standards & Child Protection Policies, asking questions and/or for support when necessary;
    • Implement all work-related activities with a gender, disability and child protection lens, taking into account the different needs, concerns and ideas of our staff and beneficiaries;
    • Ensure the incorporation of PSEA and gender equity principles in all policies and activities;
    • Help build an inclusive office environment where people do not feel disadvantaged or judged according to their gender or limited due to manageable disability.

    Requirements
    Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Demographics, Computer Science, IT, or any other relevant equivalent degree is required. A Master’s degree is an added advantage
    • Minimum of 2 years previous experience working with National and international NGOs.
    • Minimum of 3 years experience in Monitoring, Evaluation, and Accountability in the humanitarian context.
    • Experience in implementing NHF-funded
    • The ability to develop Maps and infographics is an added advantage

    Skills and Competency:

    • Proficiency in the use of MS Excel or other statistical packages e.g SPSS, STATA-12, PowerBI etc)
    • Good interpersonal skills

    Education Assistant

    Job Description

    • The Education Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Education Officer and Education Manager, providing essential support for the day-to-day implementation of funded projects that focus on both formal and non-formal education.
    • This role will involve assisting with data collection, documentation, teacher support, and coordination with schools and community stakeholders.
    • The education assistant will also support the facilitation of educational activities and the smooth operation of learning centers.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assist in the daily implementation of teaching and learning activities at learning centers, ensuring they align with project objectives.
    • Help in maintaining accurate enrollment data, monitoring learner retention, and reporting any discrepancies or issues to the education officer.
    • Work closely with school heads, the School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs), community stakeholders, and local education authorities to ensure smooth operations and proper learner enrollment.
    • Assist in the implementation of educational programs designed to improve student enrollment and retention.

    Support Teacher Training:

    • Aid in organizing and supporting in-service teacher/facilitator training sessions, ensuring that training materials are available and that sessions run smoothly.
    • Ensure that teachers receive necessary support to meet the training needs identified by the education officer.
    • Assist in the distribution of scholastic materials and resources to students and facilitators, based on the identified needs at the learning centers.
    • Ensure materials are tracked and that distribution is completed efficiently and on time.

    • Support the monitoring of student progress in learning spaces and report findings to the education officer.
    • Assist in preparing weekly progress reports and share updates with the education officer in a timely manner.

    Budget and Resource Management:

    • Help with managing and tracking the project’s budget, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and that there is no under- or overspending.
    • Assist in tracking and reporting on procurement processes, ensuring adherence to the project budget.

    Coordination and Representation:

    • Represent CATAI at coordination meetings and assist with organizing local-level meetings.
    • Liaise with the education officer to ensure effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders.
    • Assist the education officer in maintaining accurate and organized documentation, including learner data, project activities, and monitoring reports.
    • Work with the M&E team to ensure timely submission of reports, including 5Ws, and ensure proper storage of documents and Means of Verification (MOVs).
    • Provide general support to the education officer, including assisting with logistical arrangements for meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
    • Assist with the smooth implementation of accelerated education programs.

    Skills and Qualifications

    • B.Sc / BA /B.Ed in Education, HND, NCE Social Sciences, or equivalent field experience
    • At least 3 years of progressive experience in Education, and humanitarian education programs.
    • Strong organizational and communication skills.
    • Ability to work well with diverse teams and community stakeholders.
    • Basic knowledge of education systems and challenges in formal and non-formal settings.
    • Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation tools and data collection techniques is an advantage.
    • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
    • Previous experience in capacity building/training facilitation is desirable.
    • Ability to adapt and work effectively in remote areas, work in a challenging work environment with minimal direct supervision.

    Education Officer

    Position Overview

    • With the direct supervision of the Education Manager, the Education Officer is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of funded projects that focus on formal and non-formal education.
    • The education officer is responsible for accurate data collection and documentation, teacher training, liaising with local government education authorities, and school Heads and principals, drafting reports, following up on the maintenance of the school together with the construction foreman and regularly communicating with the education manager.
    • Ensures the quality day-to-day implementation of teaching and learning activities at the learning centers.
    • Ensure proper records of enrollment data and learner retention in schools/Learning centers.
    • Works closely with the school head, SBMC’s CVTS, and Community Stakeholders to ensure enrollment of learners back to school and deliver the project activities on time.
    • Support the Facilitation of accelerated education programs and distribution of scholastic material aligned with needs on the ground.
    • Monitor the learning progress at the spaces.
    • Support the consultant in conducting in-service teachers/facilitators training based on teachers' training needs.
    • Ensures effective budget management based on existing tools (PR tracking and BvA) to avoid under or overspending. Tracks the PR regularly to ensure quality budget management.
    • Conduct weekly review meetings with field staff and be responsible for sharing progress report updates promptly.
    • Represents CATAI in all coordination meetings both state and at the local level.
    • Work closely with the M & E team to ensure timely submission of the 5Ws, and capture all necessary documents and MOVs are stored.

    Requirements
    Education:

    • PGCE, B.Sc / BA / B.Ed in Education, Social Sciences, or equivalent field experience
    • At least 3 years of progressive experience in Education, and humanitarian education programs.
    • Previous experience in capacity building/training facilitation is desirable.
    • Ability to adapt and work effectively in remote areas, work in a challenging work environment with minimal direct supervision.
    • Willingness to work flexibly and professionally in a dynamic and fast-moving environment.

    Key Competency Areas:

    • Understanding of the education context in north-eastern Nigeria, with specific experience in Borno state preferred.
    • Good knowledge and understanding of Do-No Harm principles and established International child protection standards.
    • Experience mobilizing communities and interacting with government, coordination and LGEAs.
    • Experience with non-formal and formal education and mainstreaming.
    • Experience implementing the UNICEF/ECHO project is an added advantage.
    • Excellent computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
    • Fluency in English and the local language both written and oral is required
