    Technical Manager (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction - EPC)

    Summary of Role 

    The Technical Manager will hold a pivotal leadership role, assuming comprehensive oversight of all engineering and technical facets of projects executed within our robust EPC framework. This demanding yet highly rewarding position requires a dynamic leader with a proven track record of technical excellence, exceptional project management acumen, and outstanding interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will be instrumental in guiding technical teams, ensuring the seamless integration of engineering disciplines, and ultimately guaranteeing the successful, on-time, and within-budget delivery of complex, high-value projects. This role demands a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating technical risks, fostering innovation, and maintaining rigorous quality control throughout the entire project lifecycle.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Project Oversight and Leadership:
      • Strategically lead, manage, and mentor multi-disciplinary technical teams from the initial conceptualization phase through to project commissioning and handover.
      • Develop and implement comprehensive technical project plans that ensure alignment with overall project objectives, scope, schedule, and budget constraints.
      • Conduct regular progress reviews, identify potential roadblocks, and proactively implement corrective actions to maintain project momentum and adherence to technical specifications.
      • Champion best practices in engineering methodologies, design reviews, and technical documentation across all project phases.
    2. Technical Direction and Expertise:
      • Provide expert technical direction and authoritative guidance on complex engineering and design issues, ensuring strict adherence to international industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
      • Critically review, evaluate, and provide final approval for all project designs, technical specifications, methodologies, and calculations, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and constructability.
      • Drive the adoption of advanced engineering software tools, simulation techniques, and innovative technologies to optimize design processes and enhance project efficiency.
      • Act as the primary technical authority, resolving complex technical challenges and providing innovative solutions that align with project goals and client expectations.
    3. Cross-Functional Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:
      • Cultivate seamless and effective communication and collaboration channels with project managers, procurement specialists, construction teams, and other internal departments to ensure integrated project execution.
      • Serve as the primary technical liaison with clients, external stakeholders, consultants, and regulatory bodies, effectively communicating technical requirements, addressing concerns, and ensuring compliance with all project and statutory obligations.
      • Actively participate in client meetings, design reviews, and technical workshops, representing the company's technical capabilities and fostering strong client relationships.
    4. Quality Assurance and Control:
      • Develop, implement, and rigorously enforce robust quality control processes and procedures throughout all stages of engineering, procurement, and construction.
      • Conduct comprehensive and systematic reviews, audits, and evaluations of all project deliverables, documentation, and on-site activities to ensure the highest standards of technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
      • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for technical quality and actively monitor performance, initiating corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives as necessary.
      • Ensure that all delivered solutions are reliable, maintainable, and meet the agreed-upon performance criteria.
    5. Resource Management and Development:
      • Strategically manage the optimal allocation and deployment of engineering and technical resources across multiple concurrent projects to maximize efficiency and project success.
      • Lead the recruitment, onboarding, training, and professional development initiatives for technical staff, fostering a highly skilled, motivated, and collaborative engineering team.
      • Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and identify opportunities for individual and team growth and specialization.
      • Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
    6. Risk Management and Compliance:
      • Proactively identify, assess, and analyze potential technical risks, including design flaws, material deficiencies, and operational challenges.
      • Develop and implement comprehensive mitigation strategies and contingency plans to effectively address potential technical challenges and minimize their impact on project delivery.
      • Ensure strict adherence to all relevant industry safety standards, environmental regulations, and local codes throughout the engineering, procurement, and construction phases.
      • Champion a safety-first culture within the technical team and across all project sites.
    7. Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
      • Maintain a deep understanding of the latest industry trends, emerging technologies, innovative methodologies, and best practices within the EPC sector.
      • Drive a culture of innovation, encouraging the exploration and implementation of new technologies, processes, and solutions to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve project outcomes.
      • Participate in industry conferences, workshops, and professional development programs to stay abreast of advancements and contribute to the company's knowledge base.
      • Identify opportunities for process optimization and standardization within the engineering department.

    Qualifications

    • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Engineering discipline (e.g., Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Structural, etc.) from an accredited institution is required; a Master’s degree or higher in Engineering or Project Management is highly preferred.
    • Demonstrable and extensive progressive experience (typically 10+ years) in a senior technical management or leadership role within the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) industry, with a strong portfolio of successfully delivered large-scale projects.
    • Profound knowledge and practical application of project management principles, methodologies (e.g., PMI PMBOK, Agile), and tools, with a proven ability to manage complex projects from conception to completion.
    • Exceptional leadership capabilities, with a proven ability to inspire, motivate, and manage diverse technical teams in a high-pressure environment.
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, including clients, stakeholders, and internal teams.
    • Advanced proficiency in relevant engineering software tools (e.g., CAD, CAE, FEA, BIM), project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project), and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
    • Demonstrated ability to thrive under pressure, manage multiple complex projects concurrently, and adapt quickly to changing priorities and project requirements.
    • Superior problem-solving skills, with a meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality, error-free technical solutions.
    • Professional Engineering license (e.g., P.Eng., Chartered Engineer) or relevant professional certifications (e.g., PMP) are highly advantageous.

    Managing Director - EPC Company

    • They must demonstrate a minimum of 15 years of progressive experience within the oil & gas or broader infrastructure EPC industry, with at least 10 years spent in executive or senior leadership roles.
    • Extensive exposure to the full spectrum of EPC project execution is non-negotiable, encompassing Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), detailed design, meticulous procurement processes, and robust construction management.
    • A demonstrated proficiency in Process EngineeringProduction Engineering, and Completion Engineering disciplines is essential.
    • Proven experience managing large-scale capital projects, with individual project budgets often exceeding $100 million, and a track record of successfully overseeing complex cross-border operations.
    • Strong commercial acumen is vital, coupled with in-depth contractual knowledge spanning various project delivery models such as EPC, EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, Construction Management), and PPP (Public-Private Partnership).
    • Professional certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Professional Engineer (PE), or Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) memberships, COREN, or their equivalent, are highly preferred and indicative of a commitment to professional excellence.
