    WASH Officer

    Job Description / Responsibilities

    • Ensure the effective planning, coordination, and implementation of WASH activities in assigned deep-field locations in line with project objectives and timelines.
    • Prepare and submit monthly activity plans, staff movement plans, procurement requests, financial requests, and advance clearances in coordination with relevant departments.
    • Supervise contractors and monitor the quality of water and sanitation infrastructure works to ensure compliance with Malteser International technical standards, while ensuring WASH activities comply with donor requirements, organizational policies, and humanitarian standards.
    • Facilitate community engagement by establishing and training Water User Committees and supporting hygiene promotion and other sanitation-related activities.
    • Monitor security conditions, humanitarian needs, and operational risks in the field, and provide timely updates to management and relevant departments.
    • Support project monitoring, reporting, data collection, documentation, and coordination with MEAL, partners, and the country office to ensure effective project delivery.
    • Represent Malteser International professionally, uphold organizational policies including Code of Conduct and PSEAH, and perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Skills / Education / Experience

    • Minimum academic qualification of B.Engr. in Civil and Water, Infrastructure or related Engineering courses.
    • Experience in WASH emergency programming with strong focus on community mobilization and familiarity with Sphere and WASH Cluster standards.
    • Experience in conducting hygiene promotion, training, NFI distribution, planning, and reporting.
    • Knowledge of behaviour change approaches and community engagement methodologies.
    • Strong understanding of gender, protection, and inclusion in humanitarian work.
    • Strong written and spoken English required or local language skills are an asset.
    • Qualified candidates currently based in Benue State will be an added advantage.

    Hygiene Promotion Assistant

    Job Description

    • Conduct hygiene and sanitation needs assessments and support distribution of hygiene/NFI items.
    • Train and supervise hygiene promotion volunteers/incentive workers on hygiene education approaches and facilitation skills.
    • Implement hygiene promotion activities in line with approved plans, including CHAST/PHAST and community sensitization campaigns.
    • Ensure proper implementation of hygiene and sanitation components of WASH projects within the allocated budget and timeline meeting international standards.
    • Prepare reports, maintain activity data systems, and support MEAL functions including monitoring and documentation of lessons learned.
    • Coordinate with stakeholders and support field engagement, including camp visits, meetings, and logistics for hygiene/NFI kits distribution.
    • Compliance with Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) standards, ensuring safe, ethical, and accountable conduct in all interactions with beneficiaries and communities.

    Requirements

    • Minimum academic qualification: Diploma in Public Health, Community Health, Environmental Health, or related relevant field, with practical field experience in WASH/hygiene promotion programs
    • Experienced in conducting hygiene and sanitation needs assessments and supporting distribution of hygiene/NFI kits in community and camp settings.
    • Strong experience in developing, testing, and utilizing IEC materials, as well as maintaining monitoring tools and hygiene promotion databases.
    • Strong ability to coordinate field activities, engage stakeholders, support vulnerable groups, and promote gender mainstreaming.
    • Strong understanding of gender, protection, and inclusion in humanitarian work.
    • Strong written and spoken English required or local language skills are an asset.
    • Possesses excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, and report-writing skills.
