Job Summary

• The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for a software engineer to join our team, reporting to the release engineering team.
• Software engineers on the Release Engineering team steward the developer experience for our technical community.
• We build development environments, maintain CI/CD infrastructure, and design tools and processes to support our technical community.

• Release Engineering is a remote team with six people spanning nine time zones.

You are responsible for:

• Deploying Wikipedia and our other wikis
• Helping design our continuous delivery system in GitLab
• Using Docker to build development environments
• Building our automated deployment pipeline
• Upgrading and maintaining Release Engineering tools for our large developer user base:
  • CI/CD infrastructure: Jenkins, Zuul, Docker, GitLab
  • Code review: GitLab/Gerrit
  • Issue tracking: Phabricator
  • Deployment tooling: Kubernetes/Helm

Skills and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in related work experience

Introduction

• The Wikimedia Foundation is the nonprofit that hosts Wikipedia and our other free knowledge projects. More than 450 staff and contractors support Wikimedia projects, communities, donors, and readers.
• We are looking for someone to join our growing Global Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) team. This role will report to the Global Diversity, Equity & Inclusion manager and is fully remote.
• The candidate will help us drive diversity, equity and inclusion interventions across our global organization to enable the Wikimedia Foundation to be a more innovative, effective and proactive non-profit employer, equipped to deliver end-to-end employee-centric solutions to our people.

Job Description

• This person will work closely with key stakeholders across the organization to implement policy and process changes that maximise equity, inclusion, and justice.
• They will be responsible for developing initiatives and collaborating with the DEI team to drive accountability internally.
• Additionally they will be responsible for delivering training programmes that promote an inclusive culture and drive cultural change.

Below is a summary of key areas they will focus on:
Employee Resource Groups:

• Build effective partnerships with the Employee Resource Groups, ensuring impactful activity, supporting them in their annual plans ensuring alignment to the Global DEI strategy.
• Support and collaborate with employee-led cultural groups  and communities.
• Be responsible for managing and supporting ERG leadership with stipends and budgets.
• Keep the ERG Framework up to date and make improvements/updates collaboratively.

Planning & Communications:

• Support organisation-wide diversity initiatives, such as coordination of diversity celebration events as well as internal communications and engagement.
• Be responsible for creating and distributing the monthly diversity bulletin that pulls together key information on DEI activities and initiatives.

Research & Awareness Raising:

• Keep up to date with the latest developments and market best practice in Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
• Raise awareness about diversity and inclusion activities happening across the organization by publicizing events, ensuring the Global DEI team incorporates feedback provided by stakeholders, and providing updates to partners across the organization

Data & Metrics:

• Analyse and report on key diversity metrics to track progress against the DEI targets and commitments.

Other:

• Support the DEI team in new initiatives as they are created and  work collaboratively with the VP of Global DEI to support team-building activities that enable effective working (e.g. team events; team learning activities etc.) for effective working.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree (4 Year Degree) + 1-2 years of experience or Equivalent
• At least two years of experience supporting DEI projects and initiatives (either full time or part time).
• Ability to build collaborative relationships with others inside and outside the Global DEI Team.
• Work proactively, and independently, flagging opportunities and risks.
• Genuine passion, commitment, and knowledge of the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Understanding of anti-racist, feminist, and/or disibility justice movements
• A good grasp of Excel or another data analysis tool
• Ability to work collaboratively through a global distributed organisation
• Cultural awareness regarding diversity, equity and inclusion with non-US markets
• Experience/Trainings (example: community organizing or steady volunteerism)

• The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for an experienced and collaborative Group Product Manager to lead teams in creating user experiences that enable our communities to achieve our Vision: a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge.
• This role is responsible for guiding teams focused on newcomers' experiences and feature platforms.  They will work cross-functionally to support these areas.

• Come build the premier mobile Wikipedia experience! The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for an iOS Software Engineer to join our team, reporting to the Apps Engineering Manager.
• You will work closely with the rest of our small, collaborative group to iterate on new ideas for the award-winning Wikipedia iOS app. In this role, you will create new features, fix bugs, and define the future of Wikipedia on mobile devices.
• Each day, millions of people use the open source Wikipedia app in over three hundred languages. Help us thoughtfully craft user experiences that empower and delight our users as they read and contribute to the world’s largest resource for free knowledge.

Responsibilities
You are responsible for:

• Writing clean, concise code in Swift
• Working with other engineers through discussions, code review, and more
• Collaborating with designers, product managers, and other engineers to iterate on new features
• Ensuring the quality of the app through thoughtful code architecture decisions and automated testing.

Skills and Experience

• The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for a Partnerships Specialist to join our team, reporting to the Wikipedia Library Product Manager.
• As the Partnerships Specialist, you will be responsible for obtaining and maintaining The Wikipedia Library’s partnerships with external organisations who provide free access to Wikipedia editors.
• In this role, you will work closely with the Wikimedia community to identify, prioritise, and secure new library partnerships, focusing your efforts on high impact databases and requests from underserved communities.

You are responsible for:

• Identifying and prioritising partnership opportunities for The Wikipedia Library by evaluating community requests, potential for impact, and gaps in existing coverage.
• Using available data and resources to develop and maintain engaging pitch materials.
• Pursuing new partnerships with leading publishers/aggregators of reliable sources of information by creating and enacting outreach strategies.
• Coordinating with external stakeholders including Wikimedia affiliates and user groups to support regional and topical needs from the community.
• Maintaining ongoing partnerships, ensuring organisations remain engaged with the program and access downtime and waitlists are minimized.
• Sharing data with external partners to communicate successes of the program.
• Writing blog posts and other communications to highlight the library’s partnerships for both internal and external audiences.

Skills and Experience
