The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) was officially commissioned on the 23rd of July, 1983 by former President Aliyu Shehu Shagari, GCFR. The hospital now has a total bed capacity of 530 with 17 clinical and 14 non-clinical departments; serving a population of over 25 million in the North East Geopolitical Zone, Comprising six states namely, Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, and Gombe; as well as a sizeable number across the border of the Cameroun, Niger and Chad Republic.Â
