    WASH Coordinator

    Job Overview/Summary:

    The role of the WASH Coordinator is to lead and provide technical support for the planning and ensuring smooth operations of WASH activities and WASH-related interventions. The position holder is expected to have sound experience and knowledge on WASH and construction supervision of rural water supply and sanitation facilities. The positions involve construction works, training, monitoring with frequent trips to the project sites and supervise all physical works construction in the targeted community sites. The WASH Coordinator will also support the overall capacity building of local staff and stakeholders in WASH. The person will plan and implement WASH projects, foster internal and external networks with stakeholders and donors and provides technical support for developing funding proposals. The WASH Coordinator manages, leads, and provides direction to the WASH team in line with LESGO priorities. S/he is expected to liaise with communities, local authorities, and other agencies regularly to ensure coordination and effective implementation activities and participate in meetings regarding WASH. The coordinator will also ensure project monitoring, regular reviews, preparation of funders reports and capturing learnings when necessary.

     Job Responsibilities:

    • Manage the assigned WASH project(s) to meet the project objectives within budget and allot time frame.
    • Provide strong leadership to ensure both short & long-term positive impacts and outcomes for the beneficiaries, local authorities, and local WASH staff.
    • Develop and implement an appropriate and effective WASH strategy, setting clear objectives and indicators, for WASH activities in consultation with Project Team Lead other WASH staff and where appropriate, with the local communities.
    • Continuously monitor and supervise WASH activities, overseeing the technical design, execution, and evaluation of progress through outputs and impacts using both quantitative and qualitative data.
    • Provide input into the integration of beneficiary participation and accountability in all aspects of the project.
    • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities according to donor and other applicable timeframes and formats.
    • Facilitate regular staff meetings to ensure awareness of project objectives, and opportunity for feedback.
    • Participate in WASH coordination meetings and other working groups, representing LESGO and feeding back to the WASH staff and field managers on relevant issues.
    • Participate in developing broader sector strategies through influence of and leadership within inter-agency coordination forums, including taking on a co-chairing role where needs demand
    • Develop work plans in line with financial pipelines.
    • Ensure that technical quality and standards are considered during project implementation WASH activities design, follow up and evaluation.
    • Implement all program activities, as member of a team, such as hand dug wells with alternative energy sources, boreholes rehabilitation, open ponds, new water scheme development, pit latrines, placental pits, incinerators, and other WASH infrastructures.
    • Work closely with program support functions (logistics and finance departments) for WASH program supplies and activities planning.
    • Checking the quality of materials and workmanship for conformity with the requirements of the contract and provide site instructions as required
    • Approving of the contractor’s work to proceed from one stage to another.
    • Taking responsibilities for the construction work and administration of the contract.
    • Responsible for overall monthly weekly planning of project activities and writing technical part of the project reports.
    • Organize and lead project coordination meetings.
    • Ensure a positive working environment and good team dynamics (solve out potential conflicts and create good team sprit)

    Qualification And Experience Required:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Water Engineering, Public Health, Nursing, Sanitary science, International Development or other relevant field of study
    • At least 4 years of relevant work experience in program design and implementation in an NGO environment.
    • Proven knowledge and experience in developing and implementing community mobilization projects, standards and guidelines for WASH programming and coordination.
    • Familiarity with humanitarian operations, coordination structures, and the mandates of donors, UN agencies, and other NGOs.
    • Demonstrated ability to set up monitoring & evaluation systems in large complex Programs.
    • Excellent communication, analytical skills, organization, and writing/editing skills.
    • Relevant professional background in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH)
    • Good understanding of the linkages between WASH, public health, and development
    • General knowledge of international/intergovernmental institutions, and a solid interest in humanitarian response and development
    • Community mobilization and development, familiar with participatory approach.
    • Technical background and knowledge in environmental health and demonstrated work experience in designing & implementing sanitation and hygiene promotion programs and events
    • Proficiency in spoken and written English, Hausa, and other local languages.
    • Strong computer and interpersonal skills.

    Project Team Lead WASH

     Job Overview/Summary:

    LESGO is seeking a committed and competent WASH Team Leader who will ensure the quality of the planning, implementation and follow up of all technical aspects of the WASH activities being implemented. The WaSH Team Leader under the technical supervision of WaSH Coordinator as Matrix Manager is responsible for the day-to-day implementation and monitoring of LESGO WASH activities. She/he will ensure project target objectives are met, build healthy relationships for effective coordination and partnerships, and provide direct leadership to the WASH team.

    Job Responsibilities:

    Work towards the achievement of overall goals through effective supervision of WASH related activities and lateral relations and teamwork.

    • Planning, monitoring and supervision of field related WASH activities, to ensure the quality of implementation.
    • Work closely with the WASH Coordinator and M&E officer to monitor all project indicators to ensure target achievement.
    • Carry out monitoring and supportive supervisory visits to the various wards and settlements in the LGAs in which the project is implemented.
    • Collaborate with other staff and community volunteers to ensure all program participants are tracked and followed.
    • Engage with other partner in the state to craft program strategies using the annual and quarterly work plans, and quarterly reviews under the guidance of the WASH Coordinator.
    • Provide technical support to organization staff to ensure high-quality social mobilization and other in-between round activities conducted by the volunteers.
    • Support the volunteers to carry out community mobilization activities
    • Work closely with the field staff, to support the community mobilization efforts by liaising with all co-actors in the communities. 
    • Ensure adequate knowledge of the project portfolios M&E plan as specified by the donor are disseminated to staff working closely with the M&E officer.
    • Ensure staff understand program priorities and promote buy-in from community
    • Liaise with other state actors to ensure coordination and smooth implementation
    • Ensure good coordination of community activities and service delivery at health facilities.
    • Build and maintain a high visibility profile for all LESGO projects and programs in the state among the relevant stakeholders.
    • Attend WASH Sector meetings
    • Attend to other duties as assigned by the Program Manager and or management.
       

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Architecture or hydraulics. Masters preferred.
    • Knowledge of leadership and management.
    • Minimum 1 years of experience from working as a WASH Officer/Engineer in a humanitarian context
    • Previous experience in managing teams onsite or management positions is an asset.
    • At least 3-5 years’ experience in WASH.

    • Previous Experience in designing/developing water networks.

    Deputy Health Manager

    Job Overview/Summary:

    Supervise the overall implementation of the project technical aspect, ensuring adequate communication between LESGO and field staff, stakeholders and Agencies. S/he will provide technical leadership and support to strengthen monitoring and evaluation (M&E), and performance reporting within the targeted geographic area, which may include strengthening capacity of health workers and other stakeholders to monitor, document and analyze the performance of health services and activities and ensure data quality. /S/he reports directly to Project Manager.

    Job Responsibilities:

    •  Coordinates projects implementation, ensuring high quality and timely delivery of all project objectives
    • Perform consultation on need basis, especially when on the field.
    • Ensure that the program is implemented in ways responsive to communities, partners, and communities and in line with humanitarian principles, values and strategic plan and procedures
    • Prepare project and donor reports in a timely manner and in compliance with internal and external requirements.
    • Work in collaboration with Program Manager to oversee project implementation ensuring that services are delivered on time, on budget and in compliance with donor regulations.
    • Ensure that program interventions continue to be informed by and integrated with other core sectors (Protection & WASH)
    • In coordination with MEAL unit develop tools for the effective reportage and data gathering
    • Oversees all technical activities of field staff, working closely with Clinical Supervisors
    • Coordinates with Clinical Supervisors in gathering field reports.
    • Examine and approve all field reports with signature
    • Approves clearance of field staff for monthly stipends
    • In collaboration with the MEAL officer, monitor program objectives, outputs, indicators, and activities – ensuring team remains on track as per donor commitment
    • Work with MEAL officer to ensure appropriate, timely and accurate data collection against agreed indicators to enable both internal and external reporting
    • Identify, reach out and create collaboration with partners such CBO and CSO or any other relevant actor or stakeholder which is in line with the organization vision
    • In coordination with the management and project staffs, produce quality reports to ensure accurate, coherent, and timely reporting.
    • Represent and participate in relevant Health working groups, cluster meetings and any other relevant forums
    • Any other tasks as assigned by the Program Manager

    Job Specifications:

    Education:

    Minimum of Degree in Nursing, Community or Public Health, or a related field from an accredited academic institution

    Work Experience:

    • At least 3-4 years of experience in Clinical Management and staff supervision, Health Experience in running Primary Care Program especially with NGO/INGO.
    • Relevant professional work experience in public health or life-saving health, SRH and protection/GBV activities including familiarity with the Emergency/ humanitarian context will be an added advantage

    Essential Knowledge and Skills:

    Clinical Supervisors

    Job Overview/Summary:

    The Clinical Supervisor directs and manages an effective clinical service delivery team using applicable principles of Social Work and/or Counseling which include - patient psychosocial assessment, group and individual psychotherapy, family intervention, patient/family education and treatment planning. Setting goals for performance and deadlines in ways that comply with project goal. Organizing workflow and ensuring field staff understand their duties or delegated tasks. Monitoring field staff productivity and providing constructive feedback and coaching. He/She reports to Deputy Health Manager.

    • Counsel, motivate, and discipline field staff, and referring advanced issues to Deputy Health Manager
    • Conduct performance reviews and clearance of field staff for monthly stipends, forwards names of cleared staff to Deputy Health Manager.
    • Ensure field staff comply with licensure requirements and humanitarian principles.
    • Ensure compliance, accuracy, and quality of clinical documentation and other required documentations.
    • Perform consultation on need basis especially when on the field
    • Collates all field reports from Health Facilities, Mobile Teams, and Community Volunteers.
    • Ensure all collated field reports goes through Deputy Health Manager’s approval and forwards all approved results to M&E Officer.
    • Represent LESGO in coordination meeting at project location as and when due

    Finance Assistant 1

    Job Overview/Summary:

    Working in the Finance Department under the direction of the Finance Officer and with close coordination with the HR team, the position will assist the finance office in adhering to the compliance procedures for all operational and program-related activities and LESGO financial implementation, and ensure adequate internal controls are in place and in compliance with laws, regulations, donor requirements and LESGO policies and procedures.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Assist the Finance Officer to enhance the efficiency of the existing control system and ensure any identified compliance gaps are corrected.
    • Enter transactions (PIs, GJs etc.) into the accounting software accurately.
    • Prepare Monthly Payroll related statutory remittances (PAYE, Pensions, NHF, NSITF & WHT)
    • Prepare monthly Expat Tax and Field salary advances.
    • Assist the team in the preparation of Monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliations.
    • Sorting and reviewing timesheets for coding, leave, holidays, etc.
    • Manage Finance archiving and ensure monthly update of finance archiving index.
    • Support audits (donor, internal, external, statutory) by retrieving and refilling documents.
    • Make payments on the bank platforms, print off all payment vouchers and match them with the document to be filled.
    • Prepare Monthly Month end account reconciliations for Naira and USD Accounts.
    • Ensure compliance with GAAPs, Nigerian, US and standard accounting practices.
    • Communicate effectively to ensure overall project targets and donor obligations are met.
    • Ensure all income taxes, withholding taxes, VAT and other taxes are withheld and paid accordingly.
    • Be adaptable and flexible to take on new tasks and new assignments as requested from time to time.
    • Work closely with the Finance and program departments to ensure the Standard Operating Procedures for voucher redemption are followed properly.
    • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to LESGO and not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
    • Provide team members with information, tools, and other resources to improve performance and reach objectives.
    • Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.


    Knowledge and Experience:

    • Minimum of 1 year work experience as a Finance Assistant, Finance Officer or similar role
    • Good knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures
    • Advanced MS Excel skills (creating spreadsheets and using financial functions)
    • Familiarity with accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks)
    • Organizational and time-management skills
    • Attention to detail, with an ability to spot numerical errors
    • BSc degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics
