    Director of Student Judicial Affairs/Academic Integrity

    Under the supervision of the Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Student Affairs, this position is responsible for administering the student conduct and academic integrity system and adjudicating alleged violations of conduct policies by University students and student organizations in a fair and timely manner. 

    The Director of Student Judicial Affairs/Academic Integrity is charged with providing comprehensive leadership, management and vision for the Office of Student Judicial Affairs.  S/he will set the tone and direction for this position, developing and revising conduct codes, adjudication systems and related procedures. 

    The Director is a participant in developing an educational climate supportive of the mission of the University. Responsibilities center on fostering an environment that encourages sensible conduct choices and personal and educational integrity as values of the institution. This is accomplished through positive educational programs that encourage appropriate behavior as well as through enforcement systems that respond to violations of behavioral standards for the University community.

    DETAILED LISTING OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide comprehensive leadership, management and vision for the Office of Student Judicial Affairs. Develop and administer an effective program of student conduct and associated judicial affairs
    • Assess effectiveness of current practice. Update, develop and implement comprehensive student conduct process that is aligned with national standards, best practices and current law. The director proactively creates positive learning outcomes as well as reinforces community standards through the adjudication process.
    • Accept, evaluate, investigate, adjudicate and set appropriate sanctions (up to and including expulsion) for cases of student misconduct in strict accordance with appropriate University policies and processes.
    • Serve as the Hearing Officer for possible referrals involving student organizations, coordinating investigations of alleged misconduct by students and student organizations; facilitate communication with student organization leadership, and the Vice President for Student Life and Dean Student Affairs regarding conduct issues.
    • Refer and present cases to the Student Disciplinary Panel for adjudication.
    • Refer and present cases to the Academic Integrity Council for Adjudication.
    • As appropriate, collaborates with the Chief Security Officer, Director of Residence Life, Student Housing Coordinator, Student Counseling Center, Provost, Deans, faculty and others in addressing alleged student misconduct and academic infractions.
    • Maintain records and files of disciplinary cases in keeping with applicable University Policies.
    • Conduct regular follow-up with all student violators who have not completed assigned sanctions, and place further sanctions when appropriate.
    • Input, maintain, and update information regarding cases and inquiries in respective databases.
    • Meet with students upon completion of their assigned sanctions, to ensure that the judicial process was administered fairly, to gauge student satisfaction and to provide support for continued personal development.
    • Provide support to residence life staff in managing the non-academic judicial process
    • Provide outreach, training, and education to all campus constituencies regarding policies, ethics, and risk management.
    • Represent the Office of Judicial Affairs at campus-wide forums, presentations, and training sessions.
    • Promote, coordinate, and present programs that encourage community development and enhance appreciation for responsible behavior and good citizenship.
    • Assist students, professional staff, faculty and parents/guardians by educating them on the student judicial process, Student Conduct Code, Student Integrity Code and the University’s philosophy of student success.
    • Refer students to the appropriate resources to address concerns in all areas.
    • Serve on University committees, task forces and work groups as assigned by the Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Student Affairs
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:

    • Master’s Degree in student personnel, higher education or related field
    • Student affairs professional with three-five years progressively responsible administrative experience, including significant leadership experience in student affairs
    • The successful candidate will be a seasoned student life professional with direct experience in student conduct and student behavior management
    • Ability to undertake self-directed tasks when necessary.
    • Must have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and be willing to work with diverse individuals.
    • Capacity to prioritize by assessing situations to determine urgency;
    • Ability to make clear, timely decisions.

    Director of Student Athletics

    The Director of Athletics provides oversight and strategic planning for the AUN athletics programs. This includes but is not limited to implementing student management policies, communicate expected student behaviour related to athletics, and ensure enforcement of student discipline in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. The Director maintains an active program that program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development and also takes charge of the coaches and facilities. The role also works to develop and implement athletic programs and activities, both on campus and in the local communities that promote and support A.U.N.’s development mission.

    DETAILED LISTING OF RESPONSIBILITIES

    • The Director of Athletics organizes the physical activities of A.U.N. students.
    • Directly supervises and evaluates the activities, providing direct instruction where appropriate, and recommends to the Dean of Student Affairs the continuation of activities and employees working with these activities.
    • Oversees the physical care and condition of the sport pitches and sites of Athletic activities, supervising their building, equipping and maintenance.
    • Coordinates the scheduling of Athletic Events, reserving the places where events are to take place and reporting the outcomes to Dean of Student Affairs.
    • Leads and oversees the teaching and coaching of sports, weight training and exercise activities at A.U.N.
    • Collaborates with the Admissions team to identify potential student athletic recruits and commit to establishing scholarships to attract athletes from around the country and beyond.
    • Coordinates the scheduling of competitions among A.U.N. students and with other teams outside of A.U.N. who wish to compete with A.U.N. teams.
    • Coordinates the engagement of AUN athletes with regional and national athletic competitions i.e. Nigerian Private University Games.
    • Provides teams and activities for both men and women in equal number and time as is reasonably possible.
    • Oversees the selection, purchase and maintenance of sporting equipment and uniforms.
    • The Director of Athletics accounts for funds allocated for these areas of responsibilities directly to Dean of Student Affairs on a regular basis.

    Requirements for the position:

    • A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized tertiary institution and appropriate athletic training.
    • Teaching certificate with physical education endorsement.
    • Five years successful teaching and coaching experience.
    • Experience to carry out the responsibilities, including knowledge of exercise and weight training, sports activities, and physical conditioning.

    Other requirements, abilities for the position:

    • Knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program.
    • Proven knowledge AUN’s Policies governing athletics and recreation.
    • Ability to interpret AUN’s Policies and Procedures.
    • Ability to manage budget and personnel, and coordinate athletics activities.
    • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible, and serve as a role model for all university staff and students.
