    Senior Associate, Portfolio Management & Optimisation (Energy Resources)

    Job Reference: PMER5225

    Job Summary

    • The incumbent is responsible for the active management of an allocated portfolio of assets in the Energy Resources sector.
    • Specifically, the incumbent shall provide ongoing management/monitoring (including disbursements), evaluation and reporting on portfolio companies. The incumbent shall be the primary point of contact (internally and externally) for performance metrics and other information relating to the allocated portfolio.
    • The incumbent is expected to collaborate closely with internal teams such as legal, Finance, risk management, sector teams and other colleagues to ensure that the assigned portfolio is optimally managed.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assist with developing and implementing strategies that ensure project and portfolio effectiveness.
    • Manage a sector specific portfolio of structured finance and equity transactions until maturity or exit as determined by management.
    • Provide analysis, on either a single asset or portfolio basis, as directed by AVP, Energy Resources or Head of
    • Portfolio Management & Optimization, to assist with decision making by management
    • Develop sector portfolio management dashboard including but not limited to status reviews, risk rating scorecards, troubled asset reports and periodic reporting for assets under management.
    • Oversee the implementation and monitoring of CPs / CSs and exits on a project by project basis (in collaboration with transaction teams); and offer recommendations
    • Under close supervision from AVP, Energy Resources (PMO), initiate equity valuation for equity assets in portfolio and liaise with sector teams, finance and other relevant stakeholders to close periodic equity valuations
    • Play an active role as part of a team of portfolio managers responsible for the creation of a range of alternative portfolios optimization strategies under capital restrictions and/or return requirements
    • Participate in client, project site, and monitoring visits

    Education

    • A good first degree from a recognized University in accounting, finance, banking or economics from a recognised university.
    • An MBA or a Masters Degree will be an added advantage.
    • Relevant professional qualification such as ACCA, CFA, FRM, CPA etc.

    Experience

    • Minimum of 8 - 10 years related experience, with experience working in credit, risk, portfolio management in a
    • project finance institution or a corporate banking/M&A function.
    • Have a working understanding of legal agreements and security documentation
    • Willingness to travel “out-of-station” with minimal prior notice

    Senior Analyst, Portfolio Management & Optimisation

    Job Summary

    • The Portfolio Management Senior Analyst will play a key role in supporting the effective monitoring, management, and optimization of AFC’s (“Corporation”) investment division’s portfolio.
    • The role involves conducting financial analysis, research, data gathering/analysis, tracking project and reporting performance, preparing relevant credit papers, and contributing to value creation in portfolio companies.
    • The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, understanding of at least two of AFC’s priority sectors, and a passion for driving developmental impact in Africa.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct regular reviews of portfolio performance, including financial, operational, and impact metrics, to ensure investments meet their strategic and developmental objectives
    • Maintain dashboards to track the performance of investments across sectors, products and regions
    • Analyze financial statements, financial models and reports from investee companies to assess project risks, performance, and compliance with covenants/information covenants
    • Working with Portfolio Managers, support the onboarding of new portfolio projects by coordinating a seamless handover from the relevant sector team
    • Assist in stress testing and scenario analysis for portfolio investments to evaluate resilience under various conditions
    • Identify and report early warning signs of underperformance or risks in portfolio investments and propose mitigation strategies
    • Prepare regular and ad hoc portfolio reports for internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, board committees, and donors.
    • Develop presentations and reports summarizing key findings, trends, and recommendations.

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • A Master’s degree or professional qualification (e.g., CFA, CPA, AFM, FMVA) is an advantage

    Experience

    • 3–5 years of relevant experience in portfolio management, investment banking, management consulting, or development finance.
    • Knowledge of development finance and its role in addressing economic challenges in Africa.
    • Familiarity with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles and impact measurement frameworks is a plus.
    • Willingness to travel “out-of-station” with minimal prior notice
