    Expedited SVN-Project Field Associate (Civil Engineering)

    Job Description

    • Applications are welcome from internal and external candidates.     Responsibilities

     

    • Assist in conducting community needs assessments and conducting technical feasibility study for any infrastructure required after the assessment.  
    • Assist in the preparation of project plans, designs, and technical specifications, bill of quantities and tender documents for each technical quick-impact project identified for the community.
    • Assist in overseeing and monitoring quick impact projects, specifically in WASH management and other basic infrastructure such as schools, public health facilities, women's centers, irrigation systems, markets, streetlights, solar-powered borehole development, etc.
    • Conduct regular site visits to monitor that the contractors and IOM implementing partners execute projects according to engineering specifications, quality standards and timelines.
    • Collect and analyze data on project progress and report findings to the head of Sub- office.
    • Follow-up safety protocols and regulations are adhered to on all project sites and report any safety incidents or concerns to the head of the sub-office immediately.
    • Liaise with local communities, stakeholders, and beneficiaries to gather feedback and provide updates on projects. 
    • Facilitate community meetings to discuss project goals, expectations, and gather input for project improvements. 
    • Prepare detailed reports on project progress, including challenges and successes, for submission to the head of the sub-office and stakeholders.
    • Maintain accurate records of project expenditures, materials used, and labor employed.
    • Support the training of local workers in construction techniques and project management to enhance community capabilities.
    • Perform any other duties assigned.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • High school diploma with five years of relevant experience; or,
    • Bachelor’s degree in in Civil Engineering or a related field with three years of relevant experience or internships in civil engineering, construction
    • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and methodologies related to infrastructure projects
    • Strong computer literacy with an excellent knowledge of Microsoft Offices, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Internet Explorer, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator etc. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and other engineering software.

    Experience

    • Strong understanding of water and small infrastructure projects. 
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
    • Ability to work collaboratively in diverse and challenging environments.
    • Knowledge of construction safety regulations and best practices.
    • Willingness to travel frequently within Katsina and Zamfara States. 
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
    • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality. 
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. 
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, and other regional, national, and international institutions.

    • Capacity to assess data and reports critically, identifying trends and potential areas for improvement in project execution.
    • A meticulous approach to ensuring all project specifications and safety regulations are adhered to.
    • Flexibility to adjust to changing circumstances and project requirements, particularly in challenging environments

    Skills

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in support of project and administrative activities. 
    • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint; experience with Publisher or SharePoint is an advantage.
    • Previous work experience with international organizations and companies would be an advantage.

    Job Description

    • In coordination with the Media and Communication Officer, assist in organizing communication outreach interventions tailored to the program objectives and audiences.
    • Assist in ensuring donor visibility in all public-facing communication products in line with EU and IOM branding guidelines.

    Expedited SVN -Senior Project Associate (Peacebuilding)

    Job Description

    Responsibilities

    • Assist in the planning, implementation, and monitoring peacebuilding and community reconciliation activities as outlined in project proposals. 
    • Under the guidance of the supervisor, support conflict assessments by collecting relevant data and contributing to the identification of conflict triggers, dynamics, and potential solutions.
    • Assist in identifying and liaising with key community stakeholders, including community leaders, volunteers, relevant community-based organizations, and faith-based organizations, religious leaders, representatives of herders and farmers, and other influential groups to support dialogue and peacebuilding efforts. 
    • Support the organization and facilitation of regular CRN meetings and training sessions to strengthen capacity on conflict resolution and peacebuilding among community members and local organizations, promoting active participation and collaboration among members. This includes one monthly meeting with the technical steering committee at the LGAs level and one with the state steering committee at Katsina.
    • Assist in the preparation and delivering of training programmes on conflict resolution, reconciliation, and peacebuilding for community members, including CRNs and steering committee members at LGA level, state government authorities, and local authorities in Katsina and Zamfara States.
    • Assist in providing guidance and support to community members in drafting conflict mitigation and reconciliation action plans.
    • Support the establishment and maintenance of effective communication channels within the community, such as community meetings, workshops, and information-sharing platforms. 
    • Assist in the development of training materials, communication tools, and project documentation to support the dissemination of information. Contribute to the timely sharing of critical information related to conflict mitigation and reconciliation efforts.
    • Prepare and submit regular inputs and updates on conflict analysis findings, community-led initiatives, and CRN activities.
    • Assist in liaising with local authorities, non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations and other stakeholders involved in conflict mitigation and reconciliation, and support capacity-building activities related to conflict resolution and prevention.
    • Support the coordination of meetings and information-sharing among relevant parties and assist in organizing town hall meetings with government and community representatives, as outlined in the project plans.
    • Perform any other task as required.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • High School Diploma in the above field with six years of relevant working experience; or
    • Bachelor’s degree in Development, Social or Political Sciences, Conflict Management, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience.

    Experience

    • Experience in coordinating with other stakeholders. 
    • Experience supporting the implementation of projects related to conflict mitigation, peacebuilding, or community reconciliation in the Local Government Areas. 
    • Experience in conflict management and reconciliation is an asset. 
    • Experience in reporting, with strong skills in drafting clear and concise reports. 
    • Experience working in a complex crisis or post-conflict environments.  
    • Experience with participatory approaches and do-no harm principles in project implementation.

    Skills

    • Demonstrate initiative and ability to work independently and as a member of a team to coordinate and/ or lead the efforts to effectively meet M&E needs.

    • Previous work experience in international organizations and companies would be an advantage.
