    Head Of Region - Africa

     Teach For All is looking for a dynamic and experienced team leader to manage Teach For All support for the network’s newly formed and growing Africa region. As the Head of Region you will manage Teach For All’s engagement with the region’s early stage entrepreneurs and partner CEOs. You will be responsible for continuously deepening and strengthening relationships across the region and will serve as an overall strategic resource who assists partners and prospective partners with assessing their greatest needs and marshaling network resources to meet them. You will set the global organization’s external vision and priorities for the region and lead the regional team to ensure the network is maximizing the impact of both current and future partners.

    The Head of Region position provides an exceptional opportunity for an individual with superior leadership, analytical, interpersonal, intercultural, and external skills to serve as a key contributor to our mission and help shape the education landscape in the region. The right candidate is one who has a proven ability to set vision, build culture, influence results through others, build strong relationships, and make sound strategic decisions that drive impact. This individual is required to have deep familiarity living and working in the region, must reside in region, and reports to the Head of Partner Engagement and Head of Network Growth.

    • Demonstrated annual aggregate increase in partner programmatic results across the region as measured by progress towards Teach For All’s Intended Outcomes and partners’ assessment of and satisfaction with Teach For All support and connectivity.
    • New partners launch as strong, sustainable, and aligned local organizations that are deeply rooted in Teach For All’s unifying theory of change
    • A strong base of regional and global champions who support the work of partners and Teach For All in the region, including the need to raise $88M in funding for our collective work in Africa with partners by 2025
    • The regional team is highly engaged and invested in a strong vision for regional impact. Regional team strength and engagement are measured in Teach For All’s annual staff survey.

    Responsibilities

    Regional Strategy: Setting Vision & Orienting Regional Team Execution (70%)

    In collaboration with the Africa regional team and partner CEOs, establish, evolve, and drive execution of a regional strategy and priorities for support to current and prospective network partners.
    Act as the primary senior relationship holder with all current and prospective regional CEOs, and build positive, long-term relationships as a means to achieving our shared vision and core purpose.
    Build capacity of current and prospective partner organizations and enhance their strategic clarity through providing direct support and thought partnership as well as strategically leveraging support from regional and global specialists.
    Facilitate connections, learning, and leadership development experiences for and among current and prospective partner CEOs within the region and more broadly across the network by strategically making decisions about how to best employ network resources and foster connections that drive impact.
    In collaboration with partner CEOs & relevant external affairs colleagues, establish, evolve, and manage vision and execution of an external affairs strategy that fosters a strong regional ecosystem and assesses and acts on opportunities for fundraising, public sector and multilateral support, programmatic partnerships, and other potential champions both on the continent and abroad.

    This includes:

    • In partnership with the region’s partner CEOs and Teach For All’s Global Special Projects Lead, secure financial resources for Teach For All’s Africa Fund (a multi-million dollar initiative that aims to raise revenue from global funding sources to supplement local revenue that partners are raising across the continent to fuel their operations) as well as for Teach For All’s support of those partners
    • Work in partnership with Teach For All’s Government and Multilateral Partnerships team and network partners to develop and execute a strategy for building multilateral support for the work of Teach For All and partners in Africa
    • Represent Teach For All externally as appropriate, and engage a wide set of stakeholders (including network CEOs, Global Advisory Council members, Board members, and current/prospective funders) to further develop the network’s presence and elicit support for our work in the region.
    • Regional Team Strength: Building & Fostering a Strong and Resourcefully Allocated Regional Team (20%)
    • In collaboration with functional team leads, hire, onboard, coach, and contribute to performance feedback of regional staff members to ensure a strong, highly effective team that attracts & retains diverse, talented staff.
    • Lead regional team members by ensuring high performance, leadership development, strong culture and effective allocation of financial and staff resources across the region to maximize regional impact.
    • Build a team and foster a culture that exemplifies Teach For All’s vision, values, core purpose, intended outcomes.
    • Ensure team operations provide effective systems and structures to communicate, collaborate, and access resources, knowledge, and tools needed for daily work.
    • Contribute to the Global Organization’s Strategy (10%)
    • Participate in various Team Lead discussions to input on broader programmatic and external engagement decisions that impact the design and implementation of engagement & support to current and prospective partners as well as our engagement with external stakeholders.
    • Act as a mentor to staff, helping shape organizational culture and build judgment and skills of colleagues.
    • Serve as a senior leader within the organization to inform organizational priorities and resource allocation.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree required
    • Minimum of 8 years professional experience required
    • Experience having managed a unit/team required
    • Experience working and/or living in the region required; experience working/living internationally is a plus
    • Willingness and ability to reside and work (authorization) in region long-term required
    • Prior experience with one of our network partner organizations, either as a participant or staff member, strongly preferred
    • French fluency strongly preferred

    Travel and Hours

    Travel expected, approximately 30 - 50%, mostly within the region to provide direct support to partner organizations and early stage entrepreneurs, or to attend regional gatherings, but also some travel out-of-region to attend conferences etc. Given that we work across all time zones, non-traditional hours for very early or late night calls are an expectation of this role.

    Core Responsibilities

    • Envision, design and manage the lab’s communications and storytelling strategy

    • Manage the digital publication of three insights papers annually, working with all team members to identify our latest global insights and present them to our network audience

    Knowledge & Skills

    The ideal candidate will be an expert communicator with a track record of telling stories and presenting materials of the highest quality across a variety of media, including video, print and online, using innovative methods to reach and influence a wide global audience. You will also be an outstanding project manager who can work with multiple stakeholders and manage competing priorities, with a proven ability to set and execute a communications and strategy that includes managing the capture, curation and publication of content and resources.

    Director, Organizational And Leadership Development

    Teach For All’s core purpose is to develop collective leadership to ensure all children have the opportunity to fulfill their potential. To achieve this, we’ve evolved our organization to become more agile and nimble to respond to the needs of our global network of more than 45 partner partners around the world working to expand opportunity for children. We are looking for a Director, Organizational and Leadership Development who will collaborate with our People, Organization and Culture (POC) team and other leaders to shape and continually refine our strategy for developing an organization that is flexible and responsive to emerging priorities and that develops the leadership of our 140 staff across 18 countries in meeting our ambitious goals for growing the impact of our global network.

    This Director, Organizational and Leadership Development will also execute on this strategy and implement initiatives in various areas including staff coaching, staff growth and development, performance management, staff engagement and developing a strong diverse and inclusive culture. He/she will work with staff across Teach For All to provide professional development opportunities and coach team leaders and managers in creating and maintaining a strong organizational culture aligned to our core values.

    Outcomes:

    Along with the Head of POC and other leaders, this Director, Organization and Leadership Development will ensure:

    • A resilient organizational culture that is grounded in our vision, core values, intended outcomes and new ways of working. This is measured through qualitative feedback received through engagement survey or staff feedback
    • Staff development systems and mechanisms to align with our ways of working
    • Increase staff engagement as measured by staff engagement survey, particularly related to questions surrounding professional development, leadership development, and career growth
    • Increase retention of high contributing staff
    • Increase ability of leaders to support their staff’s contribution and impact, measured through staff feedback and qualitative focus groups and results

    Responsibilities

    • Managing organizational evolution & culture change: Facilitate evolution of processes and structures as Teach For All works to move decision-making closer to the work, support flexible organization of people, and ensure staff access to effective coaching and leadership development
    • Collaborate with Head of POC to design and refine our strategy to evolve Teach For All into a more agile and responsive organization and create and implement the structures, mechanisms, mindsets and skill sets to align with strategy
    • Advise Head of POC, team leaders and other strategic stakeholders within the organization on strategy, process, and implementation of this organizational change
    • Advise and coach team leader, managers, coaches and staff on various topics such as:

    Staff Growth & Development: Creating opportunities for our staff to grow and develop to make greater impact

    • Coach team leaders, managers and sponsors to develop an organization centered around staff leadership development and growth
    • Design, implement and deliver initiatives to support growth and development of staff at all levels, which includes online and in-person training and facilitation
    • Co-manage POC’s Chief of Staff’s work and support on:
    • Designing strategy and implementing initiatives to support the development of junior staff,
    • Coaching junior staff
    • Designing fellowship program for our non-partner facing staff to either attend network learning trips or temporarily work with one of our partners on an initiative that both meets the needs of our partner and utilizes our staff member’s greatest strengths
    • Ensure that our organization is a place where staff can access high quality individual and group learning experiences by collaborating cross-functionally with various internal stakeholders, including Head of POC, Program Strategy and Learning Specialist, Head of Leadership and Learning, Head of Organization Development and other team leaders

    Performance Management: Ensure effective performance management process

    • Continuously evolve our performance management process to align with our ways of working and to support staff’s own awareness of their overall performance and alignment with organizational core values
    • Develop, manage and support performance management process
    • Develop tools and processes for managing our performance management process, professional development, talent planning and individual development plans
    • Enable staff to successfully execute performance management and professional development through training, coaching, and building of community of staff who support the overall process of coaching for performance and on giving and receiving feedback
    • Support Head of People Operations in selecting and transitioning to new HRIS platform that is aligned with our ways of working
    • Maintain and continue to evolve competency model and leadership development framework to ensure they are aligned with organizational paradigms and core values by engaging with internal stakeholders to understand their experience and external stakeholders, maintaining the online “leadership library” resources for staff development, and aligning existing tools with new paradigms

    Advising our people/managers on different employment matters:

    • Serve as Head of POC’s thought partner on organizational culture and talent planning
    • Support Head of POC in internal POC team strategy, including retreat planning, team performance and development, team culture, project management
    • Support Head of POC in crafting materials for Teach For All Board and other internal and external stakeholders
    • Coach managers through performance challenges and performance improvement plans
    • Support Organization Development team in their partner-facing work in professional development, staff engagement, management and leadership, and leading self, including drafting and supporting creation of knowledge products and some direct partner engagement and support

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • Minimum of 10+ years of professional experience within human assets/human resource and organizational development/organizational design is required
    • Experience in agile / responsive / teal organizations preferred
    • Experience with organizational change management required
    • Experience creating and/or facilitating adult learning
    • Experience with one or more of the following prefered: coaching staff, creating/facilitating staff onboarding; creating/managing organizational or team-based communications, building/facilitating organizational or team culture or championing/leading diversity and inclusiveness initiatives

    Director, Operations - Community Impact

     Teach For All is seeking a Director, Operations to join the founding team of the new Global Learning Lab for Community Impact. The director will be responsible for establishing team systems and structures, managing operations and providing support across the lab’s main work streams. This will entail supporting the coordination of working partnerships with leaders across our global network, assisting the delivery of the communications strategy and leading logistical support for all of the virtual and in-person learning experiences hosted by the lab. The director will work in close partnership with all members of the lab team, and manage relationships and collaboration with teams across Teach For All.

    Responsibilities

    • Design, establish and manage team operations for the lab
    • Establish foundational systems and structures to ensure the successful operation of the lab team, developing and overseeing communication, development and other processes
    • Lead on core administrative tasks including coordinating team calendar and travel, scheduling small and large group meetings, and managing team budget and expenses
    • Own and manage lab communications and working relationships with key stakeholders across the organization, to continually strengthen investment in our work
    • Project manage the lab calendar to ensure that key milestones are achieved, for example quarterly updates to the organization or biannual reports to funders
    • Support the delivery of the lab’s learning, communications and impact strategies
    • Manage content on web platform, regularly uploading, updating, tagging and tidying learning materials to ensure our content is reaching its audience
    • Coordinate and send out key communications, including newsletters, flyers and other materials designated by the Director, Communications
    • Supports the convening, running and knowledge capture of learning circles of community-level leaders who come together to learn and share around priority topics
    • Supporting Director, Learning in coordination of in-person learning experiences, including running logistics and leading on participant communications
    • Provide administrative support to lab team members in their work to deliver support to our small core group of community impact innovation partners

    Director, Learning Experiences

    Teach For All is seeking a Director, Learning Experiences to join the founding team of its Global Learning Lab for Community Impact. The new director will have the unique opportunity to set and manage the foundational vision and strategy for all virtual and in-person learning experiences designed and delivered by the lab. These will include online workshops, roundtables, learning circles and self-guided learning modules, each designed to push the thinking and build the capability of local leaders working within communities across our global network. The new director will envision, design and oversee the delivery of these learning experiences, along with a small number of high impact in-person events, and play a leading role within an ambitious and creative new team in ensuring that many more kids worldwide are on a path to creating a better future for themselves and all of us. The director will further build the capacity of team members in the lab and across the organization to design and deliver world-class virtual and in-person learning experiences that grow the knowledge, skills and mindsets of others.

    CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Set and manage the vision and strategy for all learning experiences facilitated by lab
    • Set a bold and compelling vision for the lab’s approach to fostering ongoing learning among thousands of network leaders around the drivers of community progress
    • Envision and design a range of online and in-person learning experiences to be offered by the lab, such as roundtables, workshops and self-guided learning modules
    • Tailor learning experiences to a global audience of local community and civic leaders, social entrepreneurs, community organizers, policymakers, head teachers and teachers
    • Pioneer and establish new forms of collective inquiry-based learning experiences to reach and impact our large and diverse global audiences
    • Outline and oversee the delivery of an annual scope and sequence of learning experiences hosted by the lab in partnership with the remaining lab team members
    • Diagnose the development needs of the thousands of local leaders driving community-level progress across our global network, in order to inform the strategy
    • Oversee the design and delivery of high impact workshops, roundtables and self-guided learning experiences
    • Design and deliver regular interactive learning experiences to push the thinking of leaders working at the community level, in the form of roundtables
    • Design and deliver self-guided learning modules and learning loops to grow the understanding of our network audience about the drivers of community-level progress
    • Design and deliver experiences to build the capability of leaders across our network, in the form of workshops or leadership journeys
    • Support the compilation of best practice tools and resources from within and beyond the network that can support the learning and development of local leaders
    • Establish guidance and norms for all learning experiences offered by the lab, and ensure high quality of every learning experience
    • Grow the capability of the lab team to deliver high quality learning experiences
    • Design and deliver trainings to ensure that all lab team members are equipped with the latest best practices and tools in storytelling and facilitating adult learning
    • Provide coaching and feedback to lab team members as they design and deliver learning experiences, ultimately owning the quality of learning
    • Source experts from within and beyond the Teach For All network to support the learning of local leaders in priority content areas

The ideal candidate for this role will be an expert in both online and in-person learning and development, a visionary thinker passionate about developing people, who can shape how the lab will use learning experiences in order to accelerate progress across our global network. They’ll be an expert with a background in adult learning and track record of developing people, equally adept at using the latest virtual learning models as they are working in person. Must-have skills and experience include:

    Director, ELearning And Multimedia Development

     Teach For All’s Global Learning Lab seeks, supports and shares innovation from classrooms and communities that are ensuring all children have the opportunity tfulfill their potential as leaders of a better future. We pursue that learning through cross-cultural collaboration among educators, students, families, researchers and social entrepreneurs across and beyond our network in marginalized communities around the world.

    The Director of E-Learning & Multimedia will use e-learning platforms, audio/videediting, and our new website tcreate—in collaboration with Global Learning Lab colleagues—a rich array of virtual learning and sharing experiences that benefit educators and children around the world. Ideal candidates for this role will not only bring strong skills and experience in virtual learning and adult learning theory, but will alsbe a strong story-teller with deep commitment teducational equity. The person in this role will work across geographical, cultural and socio-political boundaries tstoke a powerful, meaningful and impactful exploration of transformational learning and leadership.

    Success in this role means that the ideas and insights being surfaced by the Global Learning Lab are accessible, actionable and impactful in classrooms, teachers, students, and families in low-income communities around the globe, and that Teach For All is greatly improving its ability tcatalyze learning and sharing across and beyond its network.     RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    • Co-design and produce high-impact Global Learning Lab e-learning and multi-media resources (60%)
    • In service of Global Learning Lab’s learning agenda, collaborate with colleagues as “producer” for online courses (using e-learning platforms like Bridge, Articulate, and others)
    • Storyboard, capture, and edit videand audi(and manage others tdso, as needed) tcreate provocative learning resources
    • Consult and guide colleagues tmaximize the impact of virtual learning products and processes
    • Manage the Global Learning Lab’s new website (20%)
    • Serve as “webmaster” for new website by cultivating and updating content
    • Maximize colleagues’ use of the website taccelerate progress
    • Spread Global Learning Lab learning and sharing through social media (10%)
    • Contribute tTeach For All’s emergence as a world-class innovator of digital learning and sharing by capturing and communicating with colleagues what the Global Learning Lab is learning about virtual learning (10%)

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • At least three years of relevant experience
    • Significant experience shepherding ideas timpact via multimedia learning and sharing

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • A deep learning orientation tthe world and our work
    • Exceptional teaching skills—everything this role demands is, in essence, great teaching
    • Creative thinking around adult learning, especially using multimedia resources
    • Strong skills with e-learning platforms such as Bridge and/or Articulate
    • Multimedia and technology skills and orientation and a keen interest in using technology tdrive impact
    • Demonstrated skills in several of these areas: instructional design, online learning, UX, production, content, storytelling
    • User-centric orientation with experience in building communities, driving user adoption, and/or managing change efforts.
    • Story-boarding and Story-telling: ability tdraw out high-impact narratives that illustrate key ideas and tdistill large amounts of materials tsalient core points
    • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
    • Strong collaborative working style; ability twork in partnership with a diverse range of stakeholders.
    • Ability tinfluence and motivate others outside of direct team relationships.
    • Ability tcomfortably work across multiple dynamics of cultural differences
    • Ability tmanage multiple streams of work, independently prioritize tasks, and work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, dynamic, and globally dispersed team environment.

    WORK AUTHORIZATION

    Candidates for this position must possess local work authorization tbe considered.

    TRAVEL AND HOURS

    Approximately 20% travel expected (usually something like one several-day trip every 4-6 weeks.) Given that we work across every time zone, some non-traditional hours for early or later calls are an expectation of this role.
