    Child Protection in Emergency (CPIE ) Assistant

    Child Safeguarding

    • Level 3 - The responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have occasional contact with or access to children or young people.

    Role Purpose

    • The CPiE Assistant is responsible for implementing a community-based child protection program in Borno with frequent travel to the field sites.
    • He/she will be responsible for prevention and response activities of the child protection program that include working with the community, psychosocial support activities and case management.
    • The CPiE Assistant will be expected to support child protection sectoral assessment, project planning and coordination with other child protection actors.
    • In most circumstances, the post holder will be expected to mentor and/or build the capacity of implementing partners on the field.

    Key Areas of Accountability

    • Assist the child protection team in the assessment of the living conditions of children in the camp and participate in the development of an appropriate response to the needs of children.
    • Facilitate the involvement of children and the community (leaders and parents) in the PSS activities and document the progress made.
    • Support (the incentive workers) team leaders and social workers in the monitoring, verification and documentation of cases of children.
    • Follow-up the preparation and implementation of case action plan and home visit conducted by the social workers.
    • Assist the child protection officer in facilitating and organizing appropriate care arrangement, and suitable alternative care system with close supervision and attention to the individual needs of children.
    • Through working with the child protection committees identify potential foster families for unaccompanied and separated children in collaboration with social workers and community leaders.
    • Organize and facilitate positive parenting skills training (Parenting Without Violence Common Approach) weekly sessions.
    • Assist the child rights clubs to demonstrate to the community and the concerning bodies about protection concerns that children are facing while living in the camp and promote the participation of children in all matters affecting their lives.
    • Organize and lead psychosocial support activities at Child-friendly Spaces
    • Work closely with the child protection officer in the celebration of international events days and other awareness-raising sessions
    • Assist and participate in the preparation of budget, work and spending plans, and PR tracking to monitor the proper utilization of the budget and timely implementation of activities.
    • Adhere and fully abide by the child protection code of conduct.
    • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor
    • With support from the Coordinator, supervise project implementation to ensure timely delivery of project activities (for example, monitoring against individual performance management work plans).
    • With support from the lead Coordinator and/or other senior programme staff, prepare and review timely monthly reports submitted by partners and SCI Staff.
    • Work with the MEAL plan to ensure links to reporting requirements where possible, refer to the MEAL framework to build an evidence-base for child protection programming interventions.
    • With support from the CRM/Accountability Officer put in place accountability activities for your project, ensuring that feedback from children and their families is considered in project design.
    • Ensure that the minimum standards of humanitarian relief are maintained in accordance with the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Settings and the Sphere standard
    • Ensure survivors of gender-based violence are timely identified and provided counselling and other appropriate response services.
    • Ensure relevant referral forms are in place, implemented accordingly and coordinate monthly meetings including, parent’s forum and child protection committee
    • Provide essential psychosocial first aid support to children and adults when needed and ensure partner staff are supervised regularly to ensure activities are carried out in line with minimum standard guidelines.
    • Consistently update the referral pathway of project locations.

    Capacity Building:

    • Provide capacity to implementing partners that have less CPiE experience

    Representation & Advocacy & Organisational Learning:

    • With support from the Lead Child Protection Coordinator and/or other senior programme staff, assist in advocacy activities that target decision-makers in-country.
    • In collaboration with the Humanitarian Technical Unit and Child Protection team, feed in learning, experiences and evidence to relevant global advocacy objectives.
    • Contribute to communications and media work as required.

    General:

    • Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
    • Other ad hoc tasks as requested by Line Manager.

    Qualifications and Experience
    Essential Criteria:

    • University Degree or equivalent in Social work, Social Science, development studies or equivalent combination of relevant training and experience
    • Minimum 1year post NYSC work experience in GBV and child Protection work, supervision, community mobilisation and distributions and solid understanding of the actual Nigeria Emergency context.
    • Proven ability to supervise a CP project with holistic approach and integrated to child protection right
    • Fluent in English
    • Working knowledge of Hausa and/or Kanuri
    • Computer literate

    Desirable Criteria:

    • Female with high level of personal integrity, commitment and professional responsibility with GBV exigencies.
    • Excellent communication skills,
    • Team player with strong leadership skills
    • Mature personality with life experience is an advantage
    • Able to be a self-started and work in challenging contexts and fragile environment.

    • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
    • Dust furniture and scrub surfaces clean.
    • Clean and service restrooms with mops and disinfectants.
    • Identify and report possible repairs.
    • Support in movement of heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies.
    • Wash kitchen utensils and make sure the kitchen surface is always neat, clean and dry
    • Ensures no plates, cups or utensils are left over the night in the kitchen sink.
    • Remove  cobwebs
    • Cut and trim the flowers & grass within & outside the premises

    • The HR Assistant will provide HR support for the effective implementation of activities in Borno Office. 
    • S/he will liaise with the other departments in Borno Office and the Country Office and ensure agreed action regarding HR is taken, and give feedback to the team.

    Key Areas of Accountability
    Programme Administration:

    • Responsible for maintaining and updating personnel filing system in both soft and hard for HR department in line with HR best practice
    • Review personnel and recruitment files in identifying missing documents
    • Collate missing information in excel spread sheet
    • Follow up with staffs and recruiting managers on missing documents in personnel and recruitments files
    • Update and circulate the filing list regularly to HR team members.
    • Collate induction materials in readiness for induction
    • Update staff list and share with HR Officer & HRAM
    • Update schedule of trainings attended by staff & update L & D tracking spreadsheet
    • Maintain and update all database/tracker for Staff, Consultants, Volunteers, recruitments, learning and development, applicants
    • Maintain list of training conducted
    • Update and share New starters and leavers list with Finance at the beginning of each month
    • Provide administrative support to Line Manager in arranging for HR trainings and events
    • Assist the HR Officer/Manager with arranging for interviews
    • Follow-up with Country Office and Field HR focal persons on recruitment documents
    • Responsible for maintaining and storing of all recruitment documentation in line with SCI guideline
    • Track probation and prepare confirmation letters
    • Track staff contract end date, seek approval for extension and prepare contract extension letter
    • Any other duty assigned by Line Manager
