Our Client, a loan and credit institution is looking to hire a Data Scientist who will be responsible for managing the IT infrastructure and IT operations of the institution in Nigeria. This comprises managing the IT department, which provides a host of ICT services (IT procurement, data centre and server hosting, disaster recovery, internet and email, IT security, IT project management, application support, Network monitoring administration, service desk). In addition, this position also looks after IT license management, IT group compliance, managed services, etc

Job Description

• Manage information technology and computer systems
• Plan, organize, control  and evaluate  IT and electronic data operations
• Manage  IT staff by recruiting, training and coaching employees, communicating job expectations and appraising their performance
• Design, develop, implement and coordinate systems, policies and procedures
• Ensure  security of data, network access and backup systems
• Act in alignment with user needs and system functionality to contribute to organizational policy
• Identify problematic areas and implement strategic solutions in time
• Audit  systems and assess their outcomes
• Preserve  assets, information security and control structures
• Be responsible for the company’s data science strategy
• Establish new systems and processes and look for opportunities to improve the flow of data
• Evaluate new and emerging technologies
• Represent the company at external events and conferences;
• Build and develop relationships with clients
• Build algorithms and design experiments to merge, manage, interrogate and extract data to supply tailored reports to colleagues, customers or the wider organisation
• Use machine learning tools and statistical techniques to produce solutions to problems
• Maintain clear and coherent communication, both verbal and written, to understand data needs and report results
• Create clear reports that tell compelling stories about how customers or clients work with the business
• Assess the effectiveness of data sources and data-gathering techniques and improve data collection methods
• Horizon scan to stay up to date with the latest technology, techniques and methods
• Conduct research from which you'll develop prototypes and proof of concepts

Qualifications

• Relevant Bachelor degree or tertiary qualification in information technology, or specialist qualification in IT infrastructure management (MCSE or ITIL ICT Infrastructure Management Certificate)
• Desirable qualification: a post graduate qualification in big data or business/data analytics or data science.
• Substantial experience in a busy, progressive and tightly managed business environment in a comparable role of at least 5 -7 years.
• Extensive experience of banking systems.
• Ability to code, develop and improve scripts in line with business needs
• Excellent knowledge of technical management, information analysis and of computer hardware/software systems
• Expertise in data centre management and data governance
• Hands-on experience with computer networks, network administration and network installation
• Ability to lead and manage personnel

Job Description

• Report to the Africa Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
• Implement vision and strategic plan for the firm
• Promptly inform the CEO and/or Board of internal and external matters affecting the firm.
• Ensure that the firm’s mission is being properly executed.
• Develop and evaluate various programs.
• Support the strategic hiring employees.
• Lead and motivate the firm’s employees and associates.
• Foster effective teamwork among employees.
• Serve as the face for the firm in public relations matters.
• Prepare regular updates on the firm’s overall performance to the CEO and Board of Directors.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a senior management role within the FinTech, LendTech or Banking industry
• Proven track record of leadership with passion for the firm’s mission.
• Familiarity with the Nigerian community as well as the financial industry’s issues and causes
