    Construction Project Engineer

    Job Summary

    • Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Limited is seeking a highly competent, experienced and results-driven Construction Project Engineer to join our team.
    • The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, engineering, execution, supervision and completion of construction and infrastructure projects across the Company's facilities, ensuring that projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required technical and quality standards.
    • The Construction Project Engineer will provide technical and project management leadership across construction, civil, structural, building services and infrastructure projects. The role will coordinate contractors, consultants, engineers, vendors and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
    • The successful candidate must have strong practical construction experience, excellent project coordination skills, and the ability to translate engineering designs and project requirements into safe, cost-effective, high-quality facilities.

    Responsibilities
    Project Planning & Management:

    • Plan, coordinate and manage construction projects from concept and design through execution, commissioning and handover.
    • Develop project plans, work programmes, schedules, milestones and deliverables.
    • Define project scope, objectives, timelines, resource requirements and performance indicators.
    • Monitor project progress against approved schedules, budgets and specifications.
    • Identify project risks, delays and constraints and implement appropriate corrective actions.
    • Provide regular project status reports to Management.

    Engineering & Technical Supervision:

    • Review architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and other engineering drawings and specifications.
    • Ensure construction activities are executed in accordance with approved designs, specifications, drawings, BOQs and applicable standards.
    • Provide technical direction and resolve engineering and construction challenges that arise during project execution.
    • Conduct site inspections and verify that works conform to approved designs and technical requirements.
    • Review technical submissions, method statements, shop drawings and material specifications.
    • Coordinate technical interfaces between different engineering disciplines.
    • Construction Supervision:
    • Supervise and coordinate contractors, subcontractors, consultants and site personnel.
    • Monitor daily construction activities and ensure work is progressing according to approved programmes.
    • Ensure proper sequencing and coordination of construction activities.
    • Inspect workmanship, materials and installations to ensure compliance with specifications.
    • Identify defective, substandard or non-conforming work and ensure corrective action is taken.
    • Verify project measurements and completed works for certification and payment purposes.
    • Ensure proper site documentation, including site instructions, inspection records, progress reports and project correspondence.

    Cost & Budget Management:

    • Support preparation and review of project budgets, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), cost estimates and resource plans.
    • Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets.
    • Review contractor valuations, payment applications, variations and claims.
    • Assess the technical and commercial implications of proposed variations.
    • Identify opportunities to control costs without compromising quality, safety or project requirements.
    • Support procurement and commercial teams in evaluating technical aspects of contractor and supplier quotations.

    Contractor & Consultant Management:

    • Coordinate and manage relationships with contractors, subcontractors, consultants and technical service providers.
    • Participate in contractor prequalification, technical evaluations and tender assessments.
    • Monitor contractor performance against contractual, technical, quality, safety and schedule requirements.
    • Conduct regular progress meetings and ensure agreed actions are implemented.
    • Review contractor work programmes and recovery plans where projects fall behind schedule.
    • Escalate contractor performance issues and recommend appropriate corrective measures.

    Quality Assurance & Quality Control:

    • Establish and maintain appropriate quality control procedures for construction activities.
    • Ensure materials and workmanship meet approved specifications and applicable standards.
    • Review material samples, test certificates and technical documentation.
    • Coordinate inspections and testing of construction works.
    • Ensure non-conformities are documented, investigated and closed out.
    • Maintain appropriate project quality records.

    Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance:

    • Ensure construction activities comply with the Company's Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.
    • Ensure contractors implement appropriate site safety procedures and controls.
    • Conduct or participate in site inspections, toolbox meetings and safety reviews.
    • Identify construction hazards and ensure appropriate mitigation measures are implemented.
    • Stop or escalate unsafe work where necessary.
    • Ensure proper environmental controls are maintained throughout project execution.

    Procurement & Materials:

    • Provide technical specifications for construction materials, equipment and services.
    • Review technical aspects of supplier and contractor submissions.
    • Support procurement teams in technical evaluation and selection of materials and service providers.
    • Monitor material deliveries to ensure compliance with approved specifications and project requirements.
    • Ensure materials are properly stored and protected against damage or deterioration.

    Project Documentation & Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation.
    • Prepare weekly and monthly project progress reports.
    • Track project milestones, deliverables, costs, risks, variations and outstanding actions.
    • Maintain project records, drawings, approvals, inspection reports and completion documentation.
    • Prepare project handover documentation, including as-built drawings, certificates, warranties and maintenance information.

    Commissioning & Handover:

    • Coordinate testing, commissioning and inspection of completed works and systems.
    • Develop and monitor project snagging and defects lists.
    • Ensure contractors close out outstanding defects before handover.
    • Coordinate final project inspections and acceptance.
    • Ensure all required documentation is received before project close-out.
    • Support post-completion evaluation and lessons-learned exercises.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Structural Engineering, Building Engineering or a closely related discipline.
    • Relevant professional certification or membership of a recognised engineering institution will be an advantage.
    • Minimum of 3years' relevant experience in construction project engineering, preferably in a structured corporate, industrial, manufacturing, agricultural or infrastructure environment.
    • Demonstrable experience managing construction projects from planning through completion and handover.
    • Strong knowledge of construction methods, engineering principles, project management and site supervision.
    • Proven experience managing contractors, consultants and multidisciplinary project teams.

    The Role

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Industrial Relations or a related discipline.
    • Professional certification or membership of CIPM, SHRM, WorldatWork, ICAN, ACCA or another relevant professional body will be an advantage.
    • Minimum of 3–5 years' relevant experience in Total Rewards, Compensation & Benefits, HR Operations, Payroll or a related HR function.
    • Strong understanding of compensation structures, salary administration and employee benefits.

    • Prepare briefs, documentation and relevant information required for legal proceedings.
    • Maintain an effective register and monitoring system for ongoing disputes, claims and litigation.
    • Support alternative dispute resolution, including negotiation, mediation and settlement where appropriate.

    Corporate & Governance Support:

    • Provide legal support on corporate governance and statutory matters.
    • Assist with the preparation and review of corporate resolutions, notices, legal correspondence and other governance documentation.
    • Support the Company in maintaining proper corporate and statutory records.
    • Assist with due diligence exercises, business transactions and other corporate projects.
    • Review and advise on legal implications of proposed business initiatives and strategic partnerships.

    French-Speaking Responsibilities

    • Provide legal support for transactions and business relationships involving French-speaking clients, partners, suppliers, consultants and other stakeholders.
    • Draft, review and interpret legal and commercial correspondence and documents in both English and French.
    • Translate legal and commercial documents between English and French where required.
    • Participate in meetings, negotiations and discussions involving French-speaking stakeholders.
    • Ensure that legal and contractual obligations involving Francophone markets or counterparties are properly understood and managed.
    • Support cross-border transactions and engagements involving French-speaking jurisdictions, where applicable.

    Legal Risk Management:

    • Identify, assess and escalate legal risks that may affect the Company's operations, reputation or financial interests.
    • Recommend appropriate measures to minimise legal exposure.
    • Review business processes and documentation from a legal-risk perspective.
    • Support Management in developing practical solutions to emerging legal issues.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from a recognised university.
    • Must be called to the Nigerian Bar and possess a valid BL qualification.
    • Minimum of 3–5 years post-call legal experience, preferably within a corporate, commercial, manufacturing, FMCG, agriculture, poultry or related business environment.
    • Fluency in French and English is mandatory, with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
    • Demonstrable experience in commercial contract drafting and negotiation.
    • Sound knowledge of Nigerian corporate, commercial, employment and regulatory laws.
    • Experience managing or supporting litigation and dispute resolution will be an advantage.
    • Experience working with French-speaking clients, companies or international stakeholders is highly desirable.
    • Strong legal research, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills.
    • Strong commercial awareness and ability to translate legal requirements into practical business solutions.
    • High level of integrity, confidentiality, professionalism and attention to detail.
    • Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritise competing demands and work effectively under pressure.
