    Branch Accountant

    Location: Opic Isheri, Ogun

    Responsibilities
    Financial Operations & Reporting:

    • Prepare and submit daily sales, cash, POS, and expense reports to Head Office.
    • Ensure accurate posting of all financial transactions in the accounting system.
    • Reconcile daily cash sales, POS transactions, transfers, and bank deposits
    • Prepare weekly and monthly financial summaries for the branch.

    Cash & POS Control:

    • Supervise cashiers and ensure strict adherence to cash handling procedures.
    • Investigate and report cash shortages, overages, and POS discrepancies
    • Ensure timely banking of cash and POS settlements in line with company policy.
    • Maintain proper documentation for all cash movements.

    Inventory & Cost Control:

    • Work closely with the Store Manager and Inventory Officer on stock counts and variance analysis.
    • Monitor cost of goods sold (COGS) and report abnormal variances.
    • Ensure proper recording of damages, expiries, returns, and write-offs.
    • Support periodic and surprise stock-taking exercises.

    Expense & Vendor Management:

    • Verify and process branch expenses, ensuring proper approvals and supporting documents.
    • Monitor petty cash usage and ensure accountability.
    • Liaise with vendors on invoices, deliveries, and payment reconciliations.

    Compliance & Internal Control;

    • Ensure compliance with company policies, SOPs, and internal control procedures.
    • Enforce segregation of duties at branch level.
    • Flag suspected fraud, theft, or financial irregularities to Management and HR.
    • Support internal and external audits when required.

    Staff Support & Coordination:

    • Provide financial guidance to the Branch Manager.
    • Train cashiers and relevant staff on financial procedures and controls.
    • Work closely with HR on payroll inputs, attendance-related deductions, and staff-related financial issues.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • HND/BSc in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
    • 3–5 years’ accounting experience, preferably in a retail or supermarket environment
    • Part or full professional qualification (ICAN/ACCA) is an added advantage.

    Internal Control Officer

    Job Purpose

    • To ensure all company processes are followed correctly, risks are minimized, assests are protected, and all financial and operational activities comply with internal policies and regulatory standards.
    • The role helps prevent fraud, errors, leakages, and operational losses.

    Key Responsibilities
    Operational Controls:

    • Conduct daily checks on store operations, cash handling, inventory management, and staff compliance.
    • Verify that all branches follow approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    • Monitor stock movement, receiving, transfers, and and documentation for accuracy and compliance.
    • Ensure POS transactions, discounts, refunds, and cancellations follow authorization rules.

    Financial Controls:

    • Review daily sales reports, cash reconciliation, and bank deposits.
    • Check and verify petty cash usage and documentation
    • Identify irregularities in financial transactions and recommend corrective actions.

    Risk Management:

    • Identify process loopholes and areas of financial or operational risk.
    • Recommend preventive measures to reduce fraud, shrinkage, and losses.
    • Monitor compliance with company policies across all departments.

    Compliance & Audit:

    • Perform routine and surprise audits across branches.
    • Confirm that all regulatory requirments are being met ( e.g., taxes, receipts, records)
    • Prepare internal audit reports and highlight non-compliance, discrepancies, and risks.

    Controls & SOP Improvement

    • Assist in developing or updating SOPs and internal control policies.
    • Train staff on Compliance expectations and operational guidelines
    • Follow up on implementation of audit recommendations.

    Reporting

    • Submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports on findings, variances, and irregularities.
    • Report urgent or critical issues immediately to management.
    • Suggest process improvements to management.

    Qualifications

    • B.Sc. in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
    • Experience in internal control, audit, or finance roles (5 years minimium).
    • Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA, CISA) is an added advantage.

    Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong attention to detail and analytical ability
    • Integrity, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
    • Good knowledge of accounting processes and internal controls.
    • Proficiency in MS Excel, POS Systems, or ERP software.
    • Strong communication and report-writing skills.
    • Ability to work independently and conduct surprise checks.

    Financial Controller

    Job Summary

    • The Head of Finance is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the supermarket chain, ensuring strong financial controls, accurate reporting, compliance with statutory requirements, and effective budgeting to support business growth.
    • The role provides strategic financial leadership and ensures efficient financial management across all four branches.

    Responsibilities
    Financial Planning & Strategy:

    • Develop and implement the company’s annual budget and financial strategy.
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial forecasts to guide business decisions.
    • Lead financial analysis to support expansion, pricing decisions, and profitability.

    Financial Reporting:

    • Prepare timely and accurate financial reports:
    • Profit & Loss statement
    • Balance sheets
    • Cash flow statements
    • Branch performance reports
    • Present financial performance insights to management and recommend improvements.

    Financial Controls & Compliance

    • Establish and enforce robust internal controls across all branches (cash handling, POS reconciliation, stock movement, and approvals).
    • Ensure compliance with tax laws, regulatory requirements, and IFRS/GAAP standards.
    • Manage external audits and ensure proper documentation.

    Cashflow & Treasury Management:

    • Monitor daily cashflow and ensure adequate liquidity for operations.

    Inventory & Cost Management:

    • Oversee inventory valuation, stock audits, and shrinkage control.
    • Work with Procurement and Operations to manage cost of sales and maintain healthy margins.
    • Analyse branch variances, wastages, and price discrepancies.

    Team Leadership & Branch Oversight:

    • Supervise branch accountants, cashiers, and finance staff.
    • Conduct finance-related training across branches (cash handling, documentation, reporting).
    • Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for branch financial activities.

    Systems & Process Improvement:

    • Work with IT and operations to enhance the use of accounting software and POS systems.
    • Automate reporting and streamline financial processes for efficiency.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field.
    • Minimum of 7–10 years relevant experience, with at least 3 years in a senior finance role.
    • Professional certification: ICAN or ACCA required.
    • Strong experience in retail, supermarket, FMCG, or multi-branch operations.
    • Deep understanding of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, ERP), POS systems, and stock management processes.
