    Volunteer Teacher

    Job Description

    About the Project:

    Rise to Inspire Africa Initiative is implementing an Education for All Adolescent in Gwange 1 and 2 community, Maiduguri, Borno State, with the sole aim of improving learner’s numeracy, literacy, and SEL skills, this project will integrate psychosocial support to children in the learning centers.

    Job Summary

    The Volunteer Teacher will support the improvement of the numeracy, literacy, and socio-emotional learning of learners in the learning facility. This position will take responsibility for day-to-day lesson planning and teaching following the designed curriculum. They will also collect data on students’ attendance, record new enrollment and provide psychosocial and social-emotional learning activities to out-of-school learners. The Volunteer Teachers will report directly to the Project Education Officer and  will be expected to perform the following functions:

    Term of Reference Volunteer Teacher 

    • Facilitate learning sessions at least 3 times a week in the learning center.
    • Support and guide the learners to comprehend the subject study.
    • Keep records of pupils’ performance.
    • Prepare weekly lesson plans and delivery plans as per the curriculum.
    • Support to identify and enroll the target children within the community for the program.
    • Support in back-to-school campaign/ community awareness-raising activity in the community.
    • Targeted children and adolescent boys and girls ages access quality, relevant basic education learning opportunities.
    • Support mobilization of communities; work closely with School-Based Management Committee (SBMC).
    • Ensure that all documents for children are kept up-to-date, accurate, and secure; and ensure that information is compiled as needed on an accurate and timely basis to assess progress against activities and outcomes for each class.
    • Deliver accessible and protective education services in the learning centers.
    • Data compilation and reporting of learners.
    • Ensure a safe and friendly atmosphere within the Temporary Learning Sites.
    • Ensure the inclusion of all children regardless of gender and ability in all learning activities
    • Ensure equipment, teaching and learning resources, and play materials are used properly, inventory taken, and are safely stored daily.
    • Report progress and challenges.
    • Conduct additional tasks as required by the supervisor.
    • Carry psychosocial activities with the learners during their break sessions.
    • Work with Child Protection Community Based Structures (CBCPCs), community leaders, caregivers.

    Qualifications

    • Volunteer Teachers should have at least an NCE, B.Sc. Ed or B.A. Ed certificates.
    • Volunteer Teachers should be able to communicate in Hausa, Kanuri, or the native language of the community of intervention.
    • Experience teaching and working with children will be an added advantage.
    • Ability to communicate fluently in English.
    • Persons must be over the age of 18 years.
    • Ability to work with children.
    • Be accountable to the community and the entire project team.
    • Must not be linked to any armed group or forces. 
    • Must participate in all the training organized to build teachers' capacities.
    • Capable of working under the line management of the Project Education Officer.
    • Commitment to and understanding of RIA Initiative’s aims, values, and principles.
    • We would give special priority to candidates residents in Maiduguri, Borno State.
