The job holder will be responsible for supporting and executing procedures aimed at reducing credit risk across the organization.
This includes, but is not limited to, underwriting loan applications, conducting verification activities, and ensuring adherence to approved credit policies.
The role requires close collaboration with the Country Credit Operations Lead to implement and continuously improve processes for effective credit portfolio management.
Through active monitoring, analysis, and reporting, the job holder will contribute to maintaining portfolio quality, minimizing defaults, and ensuring that the organization’s credit exposure remains within the approved risk appetite.
Job Responsibilities
Underwrite and review first-level credit requests in line with approved credit policies and risk guidelines.
Manage and ensure compliance with the Company’s Credit Policy Guidelines.
Improve and optimize credit approval and underwriting processes to enhance efficiency and risk control.
Conduct physical and online verification of onboarded businesses to validate submitted information and assess operational viability.
Review and enhance the company’s credit policies and standards to align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
Work closely with the Country Credit Operations Lead to evaluate customer business models and financial statements, identify risks, and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
Monitor the credit portfolio and business environment for emerging risks and recommend policies, procedures, and controls to strengthen risk management.
Facilitate the identification, assessment, measurement, and reporting of credit risks across the portfolio.
Manage administrative and operational activities, including coordination with third-party partners and service providers.
Review and analyze delinquent accounts to identify key causes of default and recommend corrective actions.
Track and follow up on agreed recovery and risk mitigation actions to ensure timely and effective closure.
Prepare and submit timely, comprehensive, and accurate credit risk and portfolio performance reports to management on a regular basis.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
OND/HND/BSc in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
Relevant professional certifications (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CFA, FRM, or Microfinance certifications) will be an added advantage.
5 to 7 years’ experience in credit risk, underwriting, collections, or credit operations within a financial services, fintech, microfinance, or lending institution.
Proven experience in first-level credit underwriting, portfolio monitoring, and risk assessment.
Hands-on experience with business verification, financial statement analysis, and credit policy implementation.
