    Underwriter

    Job Summary:

    We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Underwriter to join our dynamic team, we are a leading Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) in Nigeria. The Underwriter will be responsible for assessing insurance applications, analyzing risk factors, and ensuring fair and profitable underwriting decisions in compliance with industry standards and company policies.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Evaluate and analyze insurance applications to determine risk exposure and appropriate premium rates.
    • Assess medical records, financial statements, and other relevant documents to make informed underwriting decisions.
    • Develop and maintain underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines for health insurance products.
    • Review existing policies for renewal, ensuring appropriate risk assessment and necessary adjustments to terms or pricing.
    • Work closely with actuaries, claims analysts, and sales teams to ensure accurate risk assessment and profitable underwriting.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and industry best practices in underwriting policies.
    • Monitor claims trends and loss ratios to recommend adjustments to underwriting strategies.
    • Provide technical support and guidance to the sales and marketing teams regarding underwriting decisions and policy structuring.
    • Conduct periodic risk audits to evaluate underwriting accuracy and adherence to company policies.
    • Assist in the development of new health insurance products by providing risk assessment insights.
    • Maintain detailed records of underwriting decisions and prepare reports for management review.
    • Stay up to date on industry trends, emerging risks, and regulatory changes affecting health insurance underwriting.

    Requirements:

    • First degree in insurance, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • Proven experience as an Underwriter in the healthcare insurance industry.
    • Strong analytical and risk assessment skills.
    • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare insurance principles.
    • Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Certification in underwriting is a plus.
    • Experience with risk management in healthcare settings.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
