1. Project Background
1.1. Rationale for the Project
Action Against Hunger (AAH) works tsave lives by combating hunger and diseases that threaten the lives of vulnerable communities, through nutrition, food security, water and sanitation, health and
advocacy. AAH has operated in Nigeria since 2010 in response thigh rates of malnutrition in northern Nigeria, providing integrated health programming that focuses on nutrition, social protection for children and pregnant and lactating mothers in Jigawa and Yobe. AAH expanded tinclude programming in Bornin 2014 taddress needs including health, nutrition, WASH, food security, livelihoods and shelter needs.
The humanitarian crisis in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe (BAY) states in Nigeria’s north-east, that has spilled over intthe Lake Chad region, remains among the most severe humanitarian crises in the world
today. The prevalence of global acute malnutrition (GAM) was above 10% in Born(10.6%) and Yobe (13.3%) according tNHS 2018. The afore-mentioned rates are classified as a serious GAM level based on WHO classification of nutrition situation and are a significant public health concern.
HeRoN consortium partners are implementing comprehensive primary health care and nutrition activities across 23 LGAs in Yobe and Bornincluding Damaturu and Fune LGA. More than four years, there has not been LGA level SMART Nutrition surveys carried-out in these areas tassess the prevalence level of malnutrition and contributing factors. Tascertain these AAH is planning tconduct SMART Nutrition and mortality survey in March, 2020 testimate the malnutrition level and service as a baseline for HeRoN interventions. The survey will help HeRoN partners, Yobe SPHCDA and Nutrition sector for improving the current programing and planning a programs timprove the nutritional status of the children in those areas.
1.2 Project Goal
The survey will be carried-out using the SMART (Standardized Monitoring and Assessment of Relief and Transition) methodology. The survey will be conducted using cross-sectional quantitative methodology in Fune and Damuturu LGAs in Yobe state.

The overall objective of the survey is tassess the current prevalence of malnutrition amongst children less than five years of age and retrospective mortality rates among the general population and under-five children
in Damuturu and Fune LGAs in Yobe state.

Qualifications:
Minimum of postgraduate degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Epidemiology, Statistics or related discipline with at least more than five years of working experience.
SMART survey manager training is mandatory from a recognized entity.
