    Technical Superintendent

    About the job

    • To ensure safe, efficient, reliable, and cost-effective technical operation of assigned vessels. The Technical Superintendent provides technical guidance, oversees maintenance planning, ensures compliance with statutory and company standards, and supports vessel crews to maintain operational readiness at all times.

    Vessel Technical Management

    • Monitor the day-to-day technical performance of assigned vessels (engines, machinery, hull, deck equipment).
    • Plan, supervise, and follow up on routine and preventive maintenance schedules (PMS).
    • Analyse and troubleshoot technical issues reported by the vessel; provide corrective actions and engineering support.
    • Review daily reports, logbooks, consumption reports, and defect lists.

    Dry Docking & Major Repairs

    • Prepare repair specifications and budgets for dry-docking.
    • Coordinate dry-docking activities, including yard selection, material procurement, repairs, testing, and commissioning.
    • Ensure timely execution of all special surveys and class requirements.

    Budget & Cost Control

    • Prepare and manage annual technical budgets for assigned vessels.
    • Control OPEX and CAPEX spending; ensure cost-efficient operations.
    • Approve technical purchases, spares, and contracts in line with company procedures.

    Compliance & Safety

    • Ensure vessels operate in compliance with Flag State, Class, IMO, and applicable safety and environmental regulations.
    • Collaborate with HSE / Compliance team to maintain ISM/ISPS standards.
    • Participate in internal audits, incident investigations, and root-cause analyses.

    Crew Support & Technical Training

    • Guide and support Chief Engineers and technical crew.
    • Conduct onboard inspections to assess crew competence, vessel condition, maintenance quality, and safety culture.
    • Identify training needs for engineers and deck crew on technical systems.

    Operations Support

    • Provide technical input for vessel readiness for charters.
    • Attend emergency breakdowns and provide rapid engineering solutions.
    • Support procurement, stores, bunkering, and classification documentation.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
    • Class 1 or Class 2 Certificate of Competency (Marine Engineer) preferred.
    • Minimum 5–7 years’ experience as a sea-going Chief/Second Engineer OR 3–5 years in a similar shore-based role.
    • Experience with tugboats, OSVs, AHTS, barges, or other marine/offshore vessels is an advantage.

    Skills & Competencies

    • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, generators, hydraulics, electrical and marine auxiliary systems.
    • Familiarity with PMS systems (e.g., AMOS, DNV ShipManager, TM Master).
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Good communication and teamwork with operations, HSE, crew, and management.
    • Ability to travel for vessel visits, dry-docking, and emergency response.
    • High attention to detail and safety mindset.

    Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

    • Vessel technical availability (uptime).
    • Compliance with PMS schedules.
    • Budget accuracy and cost control.
    • Successful completion of class and statutory surveys.
    • Reduction in breakdowns and near-miss recurrence.
    • Quality of reporting and crew technical performance.
