Job Description

Afrihood is seeking an experienced and motivated “Structural Engineer” to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for designing and implementing smart and green home solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze structures for residential and commercial buildings, including load-bearing walls, foundations, and roofs.
• Provide technical advice on safe designs and construction.
• Monitor and inspect all work undertaken by contractors to ensure structural soundness.
• Inspect properties to evaluate the conditions and foundations.
• Use computer aided design technology for simulation purposes.
• Obtain planning and/or building regulations approval.
• Analyze configurations of the basic components of a structure.
• Collaborate with architects and other engineers to create sustainable and energy-efficient designs.
• Research and recommend new materials and technologies that can be used in smart and green home solutions.
• Ensure that all designs comply with local building codes and regulations.
• Provide guidance and supervision to junior engineers and drafters.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Civil or Structural Engineering, with experience in smart and green home solutions.
• Professionally registered with the Institute of Structural Engineers.
• Strong Knowledge of building codes and regulations.
• Proficiency in the use of Structural analysis software such as SAP2000 or ETABS.
• Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
• Meticulous attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent communication and IT skills.
• Advanced Knowledge of Construction methods materials and legal regulations.
• Sound Understanding of Mathematics and Physics.
• Three-dimensional Conceptual Skills.
• Strong commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.
• A willingness to learn.
