    Senior GBV Officer

    Company Background:

    International Medical Corps is therefore looking for a suitable candidate to fill the position of Senior GBV Officer to be based in Damboa.

    Job Summary

    The Senior GBV Officer will work under the direct supervision of the GBV Coordinator and will oversee the day-to-day implementation of program activities in Damboa. He/She will lead inter-agency coordination of GBV/protection activities; organize capacity building initiatives for GBV staff and partners to improve the prevention of and response to GBV. He/She will work in coordination with other IMC sectors including the Damboa Site Manager, and other actors to conduct relevant assessments (rapid, end-lines, etc) and share reports with the Program Coordinator and Programs Director to inform program design.

    Technical Responsibilities

    • Work with the GBV Coordinator and GBV Manager to oversee project activities and provide advice, support and assistance in the development of training materials, BCC materials and methodologies, etc., as necessary in order to achieve project goals.
    • Ensure establishment of, and IMC participation in, GBV coordination meetings at LGA level and ensure written minutes and reports are shared with the GBV Coordinator.
    • Work in collaboration with the Protection partners to establish/reinforce appropriate community outreach and support structures as well as establish and/or reinforce referral pathways.
    • Participate in program meetings to share information and lessons learnt and make joint decisions and ensure harmonization of tools and approaches across programs.
    • Work with the GBV coordinator to conduct a GBV and situational analysis in the areas of operation.
    • Coordinate with GBV staff and volunteers to plan and implement mass awareness raising campaigns that targets gender-based violence, in partnership with other actors (Government Ministries, National and International non-organizations, etc).
    • Provide direction and monitor staff in their implementation of the workplan and quality of technical activities, share relevant information and direction to improve quality and achieve time-bound goals.
    • Analyze trends of GBV and develop/adjust program strategies to meet need.
    • Contribute to proposal development activities (narrative and budget) through the provision of information and data on community feedback on ongoing projects and assessment of emerging needs.
    • Coordinate with GBV staff and volunteers to plan and implement mass awareness raising campaigns that targets gender-based violence, in partnership with other actors (Government Ministries, National and International non-organizations, etc).
    • Work with the GBV Coordinator to establish new Women’s Friendly Spaces/community centers as hubs for recreational activities, life skills trainings, information and case management services.
    • Document case studies, success stories and lessons learned of the program and share with the GBV Coordinator on time.
    • Undertake regular communication with GBV staff to assess progress and identify technical quality issues and/or other implementation issues, provide solutions and implement modifications as required.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • University Degree in Social Science, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, etc
    • Two to three years of experience in GBV prevention and response.
    • Clear understanding of gender, abuse of power, and issues surrounding violence against women and girls.
    • Strong background of human rights and familiarity with practical challenges faced by displaced and other vulnerable persons.
    • Experience conducting assessments and a willingness to help plan assessments;
    • Interest in building staff capacity through trainings, coaching, mentoring, etc.;
    • Ability and willingness to work during irregular working hours when needed.
    • Experience developing and facilitating trainings and workshops;
    • Strong computer skills (Excel, Microsoft, PowerPoint and Outlook)
    • Fluency in English (written and spoken) Hausa and Kanuri is a must.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective working relations with staff and other stakeholders
