The School Nurse is responsible for supporting the health and well-being of students by providing direct health care, promoting health education, etc. The nurse collaborates with educators, healthcare providers to ensure a safe and healthy school environment.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Provide first aid and emergency care to students and staff.
Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
Maintain accurate and confidential health records for all students.
Screen students for vision, hearing, scoliosis, and other health issues.
Monitor and follow up on student immunization records in line with state or national requirements.
Educate students and staff on health topics such as hygiene, nutrition, mental health, and disease prevention.
Promote healthy lifestyle choices within the school community.
Participate in developing individualized education plans (IEPs) or health plans for students with special needs.
Monitor for signs of communicable diseases and report outbreaks to appropriate authorities.
Implement health and safety protocols to prevent the spread of infections.
Serve as a liaison between school, home, and healthcare providers.
Communicate with parents/guardians about student health issues and concerns.
Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to support student well-being.
Maintain accurate documentation of health services provided.
Prepare and submit required health reports to local/state agencies.
Order and manage medical supplies and equipment.
REQUIRMENTS:
Registered Nurse (RN) license required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Certification in school nursing (where applicable) is an advantage.
