    PSS Facilitators (Psychosocial Support)

    • Job Duration: 6 Months
    • Location: Borno, Mongonu

    DESCRIPTION

    • Implementing targeted support activities for vulnerable populations, ensuring quality intervention for those in psychological distress. 
    • Supporting outreach teams in mapping and assessing children to attend PSS activities, thereby promoting their well-being. 
    • Assessing psychosocial needs of beneficiaries and designing tailored action plans to address those needs
    • Facilitate psychosocial support sessions for beneficiaries
    • Psychosocial support sessions aim to address the emotional, social, and psychological needs of beneficiaries. As a facilitator, you would lead these sessions, creating a space for participants to express themselves, share their experiences, and receive support from both you and their peers.
    • Create a safe and supportive environment for sharing experiences.
    • Establish an atmosphere of trust and confidentiality where beneficiaries feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. This involves setting ground rules, demonstrating empathy, and fostering a non-judgmental environment where everyone's experiences are valued and respected.
    • Utilize participatory methods to promote healing and resilience.
    • Provide emotional support and coping strategies.
    • Collaborate with other project staff to integrate PSS into project activities.
    • Be able to maintain confidentiality while working with survivors.
    • Facilitating PSS activities for various groups, including women, girls, youth, and children, using creative and participatory approaches. 
    • Providing psychoeducation sessions and promoting positive coping mechanisms to help individuals reintegrate into their communities after experiencing violence. 

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    • A Bachelor's Degree/HND/NCE in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Community Development, or a related field.
    • 2 years of work experience in humanitarian setting.
    • Relevant experience in counseling, social work, mental health support, or community outreach.
    • Training in Psychosocial Support; PSS Facilitators should have training in psychosocial support principles, techniques, and interventions.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for PSS Facilitators to establish rapport with individuals or groups, facilitate discussions, and convey information effectively.

    COMMUNICATION AND REPORTING:

    • Become proficient with the MHPSS data collection tools, conduct, and submit screening and assessment reports in a timely and accurate manner
    • Fill in all reporting and data collection forms/tools on daily basis to ensure quality reporting
    • Weekly data entry of collected information from the field
    • Attend the weekly MHPSS supervision/ on job training meeting
    • Assist with any other related activities as deemed necessary by the Child Protection Officer (MHPSS).
    • The tasks and responsibilities defined in this job description are non-exhaustive and can evolve depending on the project’s needs.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS

    Mandatory requirements:

    Language skills: Fluent in English and Hausa, Kanuri is a strong asset

    • Education: BSc. /HND/NCE in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Nursing or other related fields.
    • Work experience: Experience of 2 year in working as a psycho-social worker, or psycho-social counselor, or community social worker.

    Knowledge and skills:

    • Knowledge of local areas and community structures.
    • Able to maintain confidentiality.
    • Knowledge of medical ethics.
    • Knowledge in Child Protection.
    • Strong facilitation and organizational skills;
    • Motivated-and ability to work in a team.

    Computer skills:

    • Excellent knowledge of MS Office software including Word, Excel, Outlook.
    • Other: Good reporting skills.

    DESIRABLE:

    • Experience working in humanitarian emergencies and or crisis affected setting.
