    Pharmacy Technician

    Key Responsibilities

    Processing Prescriptions:

    • Receiving and reviewing written, electronic, or refill prescription requests.
    • Entering patient information, prescription details, and insurance data accurately into the pharmacy computer system.
    • Verifying that all required information is present and complete before referring to the pharmacist for final review.

    Preparing and Dispensing Medication:

    • Selecting the correct medication, counting tablets, measuring liquids, or weighing powders as required by the prescription.
    • Packaging and labeling medications with the patient's name, drug name, dosage instructions, and other cautionary information.
    • Assisting the pharmacist in preparing compounded medications (sterile and non-sterile).

    Customer Service and Patient Interaction:

    • Greeting customers in person and answering phone calls.
    • Answering routine questions and referring clinical, drug-related, or medical inquiries to the pharmacist.
    • Providing information to patients on how to use their medication, dosage, and potential side effects (under the pharmacist's direction).
    • Handling cash registers, processing transactions, and managing patient payments.

    Inventory and Supply Management:

    • Monitoring and maintaining adequate pharmaceutical stock levels.
    • Placing and expediting orders for medications and supplies.
    • Checking for and removing outdated or expired drugs from inventory.
    • Organizing and stocking shelves and ensuring proper storage conditions for all medicines.

    Administrative and Regulatory Compliance:

    • Processing insurance claims, resolving basic claim rejections, and managing billing procedures.
    • Maintaining accurate patient records and filing documentation while ensuring patient confidentiality (e.g., HIPAA compliance).
    • Assisting in audits and complying with all security measures, quality standards, and pharmacy laws/regulations.
    • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy work areas.

    Requirements:

    • Minimum of B Sc / HND
    • Minimum of 2 years experience.
