    Office Driver

    Job purpose

    • To provide the Lagos State Programme office with safe movement of WaterAid staff, WaterAid international colleagues partners and other visitors as shall be always assigned.
    • The person will give considerable administrative support to the office. The post holder should be able to carry out basic vehicle fault diagnosis and keep vehicle clean at all times.
    • The position holder reports to the State Programme Lead (SPL) but works collaboratively with the Security and Logistics Manager, and the members of the People and Organisational development (POD) team in WaterAid Nigeria. This position will require frequent travels to LGAs, LCDAs, communities, project field locations and government and other stakeholder offices.

    Duties and Responsibilities 

    • To take WaterAid Staff, Partners and visiting Consultants in a safe and lawful manner. This includes all that encompasses safe driving and lawful driving.
    • Be familiar with local, State and Federal regulatory policies relating to safe driving on all Nigerian roads. 
    • Be familiar with Local, state, and Federal regulatory agencies operating in Lagos and requirements for vehicle usage and ensure strict compliance. 
    • Ensure that all rules and regulations of WaterAid Nigeria are complied with by all passengers in the vehicles. 
    • Keep vehicles clean and free of filth. 
    • Possess knowledge of all road rules and strictly adherence to them 
    • Provide administrative support for the country programme i.e. dispatching and collecting mails; purchasing items; collection of quotations; making bank transactions etc. 
    • Provide support at the reception when required.
    • Carry out minor repairs and general maintenance of the vehicle 
    • Write monthly reports on vehicles and at expected time 
    • Maintain of a transportation log that will include the following; Daily Check list for vehicle, Comprehensive Insurance card, Valid copy of driver’s license appropriate for vehicle, Log book. 
    • Update Vehicle particulars/documents 
    • Maintain knowledge of and adherence to fire breakout procedure and other related emergencies
    • Administration of First Aid as required/necessary to self and other passengers 
    • Perform other reasonable duties as required by line Manager

    Person specification

    Essential criteria

    • GCE “0” level with at least 4 credits
    • Minimum of three years Driving experience in Lagos.
    • Fluency in spoken and written English Language
    • Excellent planning and prioritization skills
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Good knowledge of major road networks in Lagos/Nigeria.
    • Basic Mechanical Skills
    • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
    • A clear sense of maturity/ ability to work under pressure.
    • A good sense of figures for basic accounting and banking transactions
    • Excellent negotiation skills
    • Commitment to WaterAid Nigeria’s culture and values
    • Creative and takes initiative.
    • Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment.
    • Ability to motivate others.
    • Willingness to work additional hours at crucial times.
    • Willingness to travel at short notice.
    • Fluency in Yoruba Language as well as a good understanding of context generally will be an added advantage.

    Desirable criteria

    • At least three years driving experience with an International NGO. 
    • Ability to understand and work within complex situations. 
    • Trade Test Certification. 
    • Ability to use the computer for minor word processing assignment. 
    • Ability to check mails on the internet.
    • Ability to abide by confidentiality requirement.
