The Mines Planner is responsible for developing, monitoring, and optimizing mine plans to ensure safe, efficient, and cost‑effective extraction of resources.
The role provides strategic guidance on production schedules, resource allocation, and compliance with environmental and safety standards, aligning daily operations with long‑term organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Develop short‑, medium‑, and long‑term mine plans to meet production targets and optimize resource utilization.
Prepare detailed production schedules including equipment allocation, manpower requirements, and timelines.
Analyze geological data and ore quality reports to inform planning decisions and maximize resource recovery.
Update mine planning software and maps with current operational and survey data.
Monitor compliance with mine plans, ensuring operations align with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Prepare cost estimates, forecasts, and resource utilization reports to support budgeting and operational planning.
Conduct field inspections and surveys to validate planning data and operational progress.
Collaborate with operations, engineering, and HSE teams to ensure plans are practical, safe, and achievable.
Provide technical support and guidance to Assistant Mines Planners and other junior staff.
Prepare and present reports to management on production progress, variances, and recommendations for improvement.
Perform any other tasks assigned by the Mine Planning Manager or Head of Mining Operations.
Baseline Competency Requirements
B.Sc / HND in Mining Engineering, Geology, or related field
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mine planning or mining operations, with proven track record in planning and scheduling
Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., Surpac, Datamine, MineSched)
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail
Excellent communication and reporting abilities
Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations in mining operations
