    Medical Physicist

    Job Summary

    • The Medical Physicist at Kano Cancer Treatment Center (KCTC) ensures the safe, accurate, and effective delivery of radiotherapy treatments through meticulous calculations, treatment planning, and rigorous quality assurance.
    • This role is central to safeguarding patient safety, optimizing treatment outcomes, and maintaining international standards of cancer care.
    • By working closely with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, therapists, and engineers, the Medical Physicists provide the scientific and technical expertise that underpins modern radiotherapy.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform precise radiation dose calculations and treatment planning to ensure optimal delivery of prescribed therapy.
    • Conduct rigorous quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) tests on radiotherapy equipment (including Varian Halcyon and TrueBeam LINACs) to ensure accurate performance.
    • Calibrate and maintain dosimetry equipment, ensuring compliance with national and international safety standards.
    • Collaborate with radiation oncologists and therapists in developing and verifying individualized treatment plans.
    • Implement image-guided and advanced radiotherapy techniques such as IMRT, VMAT, and SRS/SBRT.
    • Develop, document, and enforce radiation safety procedures for staff, patients, and visitors.
    • Troubleshoot technical or dosimetric issues and recommend solutions promptly.
    • Contribute to departmental audits, accreditation, and compliance with regulatory authorities.
    • Train, mentor, and support clinical staff and junior physicists in radiotherapy physics and QA protocols.
    • Engage in clinical research and continuous improvement initiatives to advance cancer treatment at KCTC.

    Requirements
    Qualifications

    • Master's Degree (MSc) or higher in Medical Physics or related field (PhD preferred).
    • Certification/registration with a recognized body (e.g., RRBN, IOMP, AAPM, or equivalent).
    • Demonstrated knowledge of radiation dosimetry, radiotherapy planning systems, and QA standards.
    • Strong background in the use and maintenance of linear accelerators and imaging systems.

    Experience Requirements

    • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of clinical experience as a Medical Physicist in a radiotherapy Center.
    • Proven expertise in radiotherapy calculations, treatment planning, and quality assurance.
    • Experience with Varian systems and advanced radiotherapy techniques is highly desirable.

    • Technical expertise in treatment planning systems, dosimetry, and QA software.
    • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills under time-sensitive conditions.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
    • Attention to detail, precision, and commitment to patient safety.
    • Leadership qualities with the ability to train and mentor junior staff.
