Manager - Transmission Core Capacity Planning at MTN Nigeria

Reports To: Senior Manager - Core Transmission Planning

Division: Network

Mission:

• To provide strategic and supervisory role for cost effective design, planning and improvement of core transmission backhauls through the Metro, Backbone & Switch centers including Core Fiber Infrastructure planning and scope of work for deployment. These are aimed towards the achievement of MTNN’s annual network rollout objectives, Internet gateway IGW & IPMPLS inter-regional backhaul links and capacity expansions, Enterprise business capacity wholesales and provide resilience for the sustainability of the network.

Description:

• Plan resources, defining responsibilities for each team member to provide LLD scope of work for deployment.
• Conduct design review and documentation and follow up on outstanding items.
• Manage documentation process, ensuring completeness and easy referral to documents.
• Manage the design and planning of optical transmission across the national Fiber backbone & metro networks.
• Responsible for overall core capacity shaping and transmission bandwidth management of Optical Network, Lambda expansion & optimization.
• Ensure network redundancy and resilience plans to sustain reliable core network.
• Accountable for the architectural and design to the develop of the Fibre Core Network and supporting Infrastructure environment
• Manage processes and procedures to ensure conformance to best practices and to identify opportunities for improvements.
• Review and provide monthly reports on national transmission capacity and provide solution to alleviate constraints.
• Support Network Operation during emergency with urgent plan solution to revive the network during severe traffic impacting failures
• Carry out technology evaluation and equipment forecast and ensure adequate tools and resources are available for transmission core planning activities.
• Drive and ensure the timely provision of transmission core infrastructure, capacity, and other dependencies to support the nominal network rollout objectives.
• Ensure that there is proper documentation of transmission core topology.
• Ensure/Maintain as accurate as possible: configurations/database records of the national transmission core topology, infrastructure, and capacity.

Education:

• First degree in Elect/Elect, Computer Sc./Engineering 
• Fluent in English

Experience:

6 - 13 years’ experience which includes:

• Good understanding of Metro and Backbone Optics transmission
• Experience in capacity dimensioning and service planning/integration.
• Excellent Knowledge in Planning & Designing of Fiber Metro and Backbone Infrastructure Networks with Scope of work (SOW) for fiber deployment.
• Experience in MapInfo/Spatial net/GIS Tools/AutoCAD will be useful
• Experience in the various transmission technologies such as SDH, OTN, DWDM, IP/MPLS, Carrier Ethernet and so on
• Good knowledge of BOQ and BOM
• High Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint Usage
