Kitchen Steward at Golden Tulip Hotel Asaba, Delta State

Reports To: Executive Chef 

Job Summary:

The Kitchen Steward is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and food preparation areas. This includes washing dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment, as well as ensuring that hygiene and safety standards are upheld at all times. The steward supports chefs and kitchen staff by keeping the kitchen stocked, clean, and ready for efficient operation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Clean and sanitize all kitchen equipment, utensils, dishes, and cookware.
• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen floors, walls, and surfaces.
• Operate dishwashing machines and ensure proper usage of cleaning chemicals.
• Organize and store clean dishes, glassware, and utensils properly.
• Dispose of garbage and recycling in a sanitary and timely manner.
• Restock kitchen supplies, such as paper towels, soap, and cleaning materials.
• Assist with receiving and storing deliveries properly.
• Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
• Support chefs and kitchen staff as needed during busy service periods.
• Report any maintenance or safety issues to supervisors immediately.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience in a similar role is an advantage but not required.
• Basic understanding of hygiene and safety standards in a kitchen.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Physically fit – able to lift heavy items and stand for long periods.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
• Team player with a positive and proactive attitude.

Working Conditions:

• Exposure to hot, humid, and noisy kitchen environment.
• Use of commercial cleaning chemicals.
• Shifts may include early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays.
