    Junior Legal Counsel

    We are seeking a meticulous and proactive Junior Legal Counsel to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in property law, corporate secretarial practices, and regulatory compliance. This role will play a critical part in managing land title documentation, ensuring compliance with regulatory filings, and supporting the bank\'s operations from a legal perspective. Your contributions will not only help mitigate legal risks but also enable the seamless execution of transactions and operational processes, ensuring the bank maintains its reputation for excellence and integrity.

    Job Responsibilities

    Land Title Documentation

    • Assist in the perfection and registration of mortgage and land title documents, ensuring all processes comply with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
    • Conduct thorough due diligence on property documents to verify ownership, identify potential risks, and provide recommendations to mitigate any legal or financial exposure.
    • Serve as a key liaison with land registries, surveyors, law firms, and other professionals involved in the title perfection process to ensure the timely completion of all related tasks.
    • Maintain an organized system for tracking and managing land documentation to support the bank’s mortgage and lending operations effectively.

    Secretarial Support

    • Ensure the proper maintenance and updating of statutory records and registers in line with the requirements of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) and other relevant regulations.
    • Support the implementation and monitoring of the bank’s corporate governance practices, ensuring that policies and procedures are adhered to consistently.

    Regulatory Compliance

    • Prepare, file, and monitor statutory returns with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), including annual returns, changes in directorships, share allotments, and other corporate filings.
    • Monitor and stay abreast of changes in regulations and compliance requirements, providing recommendations and implementing processes to ensure the bank meets its obligations.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure the bank complies with regulatory audits and inspections by preparing and providing all required documentation and information.
    • Develop and maintain an up-to-date compliance calendar to ensure timely submission of filings and adherence to deadlines.

    Legal Support and Advisory

    • Review, draft, and negotiate loan agreements, collateral documents, and other legal contracts related to the bank’s mortgage operations, ensuring that all agreements align with legal and organizational standards.
    • Provide expert legal advisory services on routine and complex matters, including property transactions, litigation, dispute resolution, and risk management strategies.
    • Conduct legal research to identify, analyze, and interpret laws, regulations, and industry standards relevant to the bank’s operations, offering actionable insights to support decision-making.
    • Act as a legal resource to other departments, offering guidance and training to ensure organizational compliance and risk mitigation across all business units.

     Job Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B) and a Call to the Nigerian Bar (B.L).
    •  5–7 years of relevant post-call experience, preferably in a financial institution, real estate or related sector.
    •  Strong knowledge of Nigerian property laws, company secretarial practices, and regulatory compliance.
    • Proficiency in handling land documentation and CAC filings.
    • Excellent drafting, communication, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.
    • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism.
    • Strong understanding of financial services industry regulations.
    • Experience in corporate governance and stakeholder management
