Job Overview
We are seeking a strategic, results-driven, and experienced Head of Sales (Retail Insurance) to lead our retail insurance business unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and executing sales strategies to achieve revenue and market growth targets, managing a high-performing sales team, and maintaining key client relationships.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, an excellent grasp of the Nigerian insurance market, and the ability to drive sales performance through innovation and team development.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Strategy & Execution
- Develop and implement strategic sales plans to achieve business objectives, revenue growth, and market penetration.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and channels for expansion.
- Collaborate with marketing and product development teams to align sales efforts with company goals.
Team Leadership & Performance Management
- Lead, inspire, and manage the retail insurance sales team to consistently achieve individual and team targets.
- Set performance goals and KPIs, monitor results, and implement performance improvement strategies where needed.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning.
Recruitment, Training & Development
- Recruit, train, and onboard new sales agents and business development officers.
- Organize regular sales training programs to strengthen product knowledge and sales techniques.
- Coach and mentor team members to enhance productivity and professionalism.
Market Analysis & Strategy
- Conduct regular market and competitor analysis to identify growth opportunities and emerging risks.
- Analyze client feedback and market trends to refine product offerings and sales approaches.
- Provide strategic input on pricing, promotional activities, and target segmentation.
Client Relations & Retention
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients, brokers, and corporate partners.
- Drive customer satisfaction and retention through personalized service and proactive engagement.
- Represent the company at industry events, trade fairs, and client meetings.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure that all sales processes comply with NAICOM and internal regulatory standards.
- Oversee accurate documentation and reporting of all sales activities and transactions.
- Prepare and present sales forecasts, performance reports, and recommendations to management.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Insurance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in insurance sales, including at least 5 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
- Proven track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Strong understanding of insurance products, market dynamics, and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software tools.
Professional Certifications (Added Advantage)
- Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) Certification
- Sales or Leadership Certifications (e.g., Sales Management, Business Leadership, or Strategic Management programs)
