    Head Nurse

    About the Role

    • We are seeking a dedicated, experienced, and compassionate Head Nurse to lead our nursing team.
    • The ideal candidate will oversee all nursing activities, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care in compliance with professional standards and hospital policies.
    • This role requires a strong leader who can inspire, mentor, and manage nursing staff to maintain excellence in clinical practice and patient satisfaction.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide leadership and supervision to all nursing staff across departments.
    • Ensure that patient care is delivered safely, efficiently, and compassionately.
    • Develop, implement, and monitor nursing policies, procedures, and protocols.
    • Coordinate nursing schedules, rosters, and shift allocations to ensure adequate staffing.
    • Oversee patient admission, discharge, and transfer processes for seamless operations.
    • Monitor nursing documentation to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance.
    • Conduct regular ward rounds to assess care standards and staff performance.
    • Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic patient care.
    • Identify staff training needs and coordinate continuous professional development programs.
    • Enforce infection prevention and control measures across all units.
    • Maintain an effective communication channel between management and the nursing team.
    • Handle patients’ complaints or concerns professionally and promptly.
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and audits to uphold hospital standards.
    • Ensure that medical supplies, consumables, and equipment are adequately stocked and properly utilized.

    Qualifications and Requirements

    • Registered Nurse (RN) / Registered Midwife (RM) with a valid license from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification; a Master’s Degree or relevant management certification is an added advantage.
    • 8–10 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 3–5 years in a supervisory or matron-level role.
    • Proven leadership and team management experience within a hospital or healthcare setting.
    • Strong knowledge of nursing standards, hospital operations, and infection control practices.
    • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
    • High emotional intelligence, empathy, and the ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism.
    • Strong organizational and administrative abilities.
    • Commitment to continuous learning and maintaining clinical excellence.
