    Geo-Database & Gis Geologist

    Location: Sabon Wuse, Niger

    Job Purpose

    • To design and oversee the implementation and maintenance of exploration and mineral resource data management systems and infrastructure for the Exploration Group.
    • The role has accountability for being the custodian of all geo-data generated during exploration programmes or acquired from external parties and ensuring that the data has passed QAQC, has been validated, and is of high integrity and is made available seamlessly to end users.

    Principle Accountabilities

    • Ensure safety, health and wellbeing of employees and equipment to comply with both legal requirements and the company policy.
    • Establishment of an exploration data management system for GIS and borehole data and all Geochem data in acQuire (or a similar appropriate geo-database) in which all exploration data is centrally stored, administered, and can be made available to exploration staff.
    • Establish data management protocols and procedures and ensure that these are implemented on all exploration projects.
    • Provide all users with training on these standards and procedures and make them accountable for adhering to these standards and procedures.
    • Maintain the technical data management systems once established and improve on them on an on-going basis as required.
    • Oversee management of technical software licenses.
    • Mineral Resource estimation.
    • Promotion of operational excellence across the exploration teams, through continuous improvement initiatives and establishment of quality as a way of life, especially in the adoption and application of industry’s best, efficient and most cost-effective mineral resource management standards.

    Requirements

    • Professional Geologist designation
    • Must possess a BSc (Hons) in geology, MSc/MEng or equivalent is preferred.
    • Must have minimum 10 years geology/mining related experience of which of 5 years must be in designing, implementing and management of geo-databases for and Mineral Resource estimation of high-value minerals including copper and other base metals; gold, silver, platinum and other precious metals; rare earth and energy minerals, and bulk mineral commodities such as iron-ore and coal.
    • Strong geoscientist with good knowledge of geology and orebody modelling
    • High proficiency in geo-data management software (e.g. DAP, Datashed, acQuire), and GIS software such as ArcGIS.
    • Good knowledge of ore forming systems, exploration models and structural controls to mineralisations and mineral resource modelling software like Datamine Studio RM and Leapfrog.
    • International/Africa experience in diverse geological environments.
    • Excellent communication skills, oral, written, presentation and authoring of technical reports.
